Why this hostel is SPECIAL ?
By A.S, 7/22/08
I stayed in mugraby hostel many times during my year long stay in Israel For weeks at a time, sometimes. Staff are all very well versed in english and will help you as much as possible. I consider the true mark of a hostel is it's staff, everything else is secondary. This hostel will not let transients, druggies and or loud people stay there. There was no drinking allowed and the only qualm I had about a person was taken care of immediately. It is NOT the Hilton!!! People who seem to have terrible experiences here seem to EXPECT 5 star hotel environment. It is ridiculous to think in such ways regarding ANY hostel. The breakfast is enough to get you going in the morning, it isn't meant to 'wow' you. The internet service is good enough to check your emails and do fast research. If you want to sit on it for half a day, then you are lost anyway because the internet cafe is right down the street. The hostel is cleaned everyday in the morning. When I was there, there was an air conditioner in the dorm. It wasn't always there because too many people who don't know what they are doing mess around with it. It is, in fact loud, in the early morning hours on the streets because there is no bar time there. Any intelligent traveler who plans on staying with many people will bring a set of ear plugs, common sense. If you need a taxi to airport or info on bus lines, etc the staff is more than helpful, they KNOW. If you are a self-centered loud mouth jerk then don't expect to be received as a great guest, ANYWHERE. I stayed in many hostels and this one far exceeds the others I have stayed at. Of course there will be discrepencies (sp) just as in ANY place, but the staff will do what they can as long as it's in the realm of logic. The 'no-kitchen' is a good thing because too many people don't accept responsibility and wash there own dishes. The fridge was taken out when I was there because the guests would not dispose of their food when they left. Hence pounds of food not being used. The rooftop is accessible and is a great place to relax and it can be considered the 'common' area for interaction with other guests. Hot water for Knorr instant meals and etc can be had at the desk to prepare yourself a little meal if needed. The security is fine, the front door at night IS locked and only opened by the on duty attendant who can clearly see who is at the door. They remember your name and know that you are staying there. If you are sensible about hostels and what they are there for then your stay will be fine. If you are expecting the impossible then expect to be let down. Towels are provided for showers, as well as sheets and covers. If you are not pleased at the towel cleanliness and/or sheets they will give you another set, all you have to do is ask. They will launder your clothes for a small fee. Remember if you go to the beach, chiggers are a possibility and you are in fact bringing them into the hostel, not the other way around. ~ Joshua

I stayed there some while ago. It was really horrific - I've found different species of bugs on my pillow and sheets and was bitten all over my face and body. The owner wasn;t really interested or helpful when I reported the problem to him.

Thank you all at mugraby hostel again and again!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/9/08
Definitely mugraby hostel one of the best hostels in tel-aviv. This is a really good hostel with friendly people and staff. The atmosphere is relaxed, but not dumpy. Its a great place for a tel-aviv visit, and the staff was exceedingly friendly. Mugraby Hostel is situated in a nice and convenience location. It is close to everything in telaviv, the place is very clean, rooms, toilets, showers, we stayed in the 4 beds dorm room for 10 euros per night, This hostel has good comfortable beds to sleep in, However free WIFI was quite handy if you had your notebook with you. I've stayed in many hostels, everything seemed to be fairly clean, the breakfast is very simple but decent (cheese, toast, coffe, tea), and the staff were always pleasant and very helpfull. The bin in room was emptied everyday. Some of the rooms have showers, otherwise there are showers in the hall toilets. The share shower rooms and toilets were clean plus full of hot water and toilet rolls. The only criticism I can think of is my room did not have enough chairs, and some guy who stay in the dorm always drunk and smells so bad with his dirty laundry (staff asked him to put his clothes in a bag and to seal it and do his laundry asap), but this is the dorm rooms in all hostels everywhere, nothing to do about it. The Hostel have strict rules about alcohol and drugs, i must say they don't like drunk people who makes trouble or do drugs, they also don't allow unregistered visitors from entering the rooms, which i think is very great. I'd definitely stay in mugraby hostel again and again. Thank you all. Anna :-) 8 Jan 2008

WORST HOSTEL EVER!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/3/08
I have stayed in HUNDREDS of hostels all over the world, and this has to be the worst one. I really don't understand all the positive feedback! It's a dump. It's dirty. The bed had bed bugs and now I have bed bug bites all over my body. I am not joking. Don't be fooled by the positive posts, they're probably written by the staff. Sure, maybe the staff is nice, and you might meet some cool people, but you can do that at ANY hostel. It might be by the beach, but there are like three other hostels in the same area, so why anyone would insist on staying at this dive is beyond me.

my Best HOSTEL ever in tel-aviv
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/20/07
I stayed 5 days in this place and would like to have stayed more if I hadn't left TelAviv. location is in the heart of the center, night life is fantastaic, bars and clubs, Price is cheap and good, rooms are good and cleaned daily, aircondition in all the rooms, hot water all the time, free wireless internet is a real bonus, I made so many good friends there and felt really like I was at home. Thanks Nirmod and Sam and all teh staff for all your help and for being so nice to everybody!!! See you on my next Israel trip for sure.

Don't go there
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/16/07
Don't go there! The place is dity all over, the aircondition was broken and the rooms are loud because all the windows go towards the street and the windows are more like paper windows. There is a nice hotel near the beach: Maxim Hotel. You pay $50 per room and it's worth it.

This is the best place I've stayed at in Israel.
By Sam, 5/13/06
I first stayed in this hostel two years ago and I loved it so much I had to go back again. I found this hostel to be clean, secure, inexpensive and relatively comfortable. the staff were pretty friendly, This hostel is in a good location for shopping and nightlife. I met lots of very interesting people here from all over.

very friendly
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/14/06
This would have to be one of the friendliest hostels I have stayed in. The staff are helpful and friendly. It's one of those hostels you don't want to leave. Its location is extremely central, you really couldn't get a better position. I made so many friends at this hostel. I will keep coming back for sure.
