Basilica Hostel, Budapest

Best hostel I've stayed at. The managers were awesome, and made an effort to include me in things, which was great as I was traveling alone. Definitely will be staying here again if I ever make it back to Budapest

Nice place to stay in Budapest. Not the easiest place to find in the city center but the very friendly atmosphere surely compensates some troubles to get there. Ah, and theres a cat to fall in love with

We booked. My wife. I. Our 5 year old son. We phoned ahead. The response wasn't helpful or coherent. We couldn't get directions to it. No-one had heard of it. The taxi driver hadn't heard of it. The taxi driver phoned the hostel. He was treated very curtly and disconnected. He asked us to do him a favour - to complain loudly to the Hostel. We spent 3 hours looking for it with our bags and a very patient 5 year old. Lots of helpful people directed us to lots of places it might be. We considered finding a nice doorway. We finally asked at the Basillica Hotel, just down the road who told us they regularly have folk staying with them who can't get into the Hostel and asked us to report this to 'The Authorities' as they're fed up with lost backpackers cluttering up their entrance lobby. They were very helpful and phoned the Hostel. No answer. We found the Hostel. We found the bell. We rang the bell... for 15 minutes. We went back to the Hotel and booked there. This cost us an evening of desperate walking, a knackered 'wheelie' bag and a rather higher hotel price than we had budgeted for. We left Budapest because we'd now spent our budget and headed out to camp somewhere in the countryside... which was nice. Christ knows what it's like inside though.

The hostel was just amazing located in an beautiful old building in the center of Budapest, everything is walking distance, very clean big room with nice kitchen and bathroom. THEY REALLY MAKE SURE YOU HAVE EVERYTHING YOU NEED !

Probably the best hostel I have ever been to ! The owners were extremely helpful; they helped us book our tours and made us feel at home. The hostel was very clean and comfortable. Nice location, as it was quiet and a quick easy walk to every part of the centre of the city. We will definitely return there on our next trip to Budapest

A very homely and welcoming hostel and with a great location and free internet access, who could ask for more!? a big compliment for this hostel. very friendly, close to the centre, not loud and clean. we had a very good time

This place is awesome. What makes this place special is the service. The staff arranged various events that involved visiting traditional resturants, bars and various sites for those staying in the hostel, and this is what made it stand out in my mind. The facilities were good, well located, clean and secure. I would highly recommend this place to anyone travelling to Budapest

A beautiful staff will help you with everything!!! Room was very nice - can get a little noisy, so light sleepers could wear earplugs. Info was fine- they even provided a very broad info for us. We had some trouble finding public transport to get to the hostel from the main train station - would recommend walking there as its only 15 minutes down main streets.

After arriving at the great St Stephens Basilica we were told by the hostel staff that we had to go to a different hostel, which we eventually reached. It was dreadful, we said we wanted our original booking, which we had to walk ages to get to. On arrival at our hostel we were shocked to find the place a dump, and furthermore 4 of our party had to walk to a different hostel again as this one could not cater for 11. Although the location couldnt have been better the hostel was filthy, after one night 2 of our members left and booked into a nearby hotel such was their disgust. This place might once have been clean but our weekend this May 2007 was nearly ruined by the grubbiness.
