went in 1999 and 2005 stayed same resort had a great time both times - owners aren't always actively involved but there's always loads of great stuff going on and very friendly locals, for example kava night is not to be missed - think it's once a week so make sure you book it right if staying less than a week. more than happy with the dorm situation and facilities (it is backpackers!) showers sometimes went cool but to be honest i appreciated it it's so hot out there! diving was brilliant too i hope to get my padi there next time if it's still running there was a nice english dude running that with the resort - i can't imagine a better place to be on this planet it really is paradise and Fiji time is the way to be - this is not a place for the tightly scheduled you have to be prepared for some time adjustments but seriously just roll with it and have a magic time, it is beautiful. nice size too that you can walk around in a couple of hours but offers great diversity for it's size.
I thought this hostel was good. The staff are very friendly, all meals are included and most of them were good (the lunches I would consider 'average' was when we got a sandwich, but that was only once). They also have various activities like crab racing and fijian dancing in the evenings. The accommodation is basic; you live in dorms / houses mixed in amongst the village so expect to be woken up by the roster. We stayed 3 people (myself, mother & sister - my mum was the only person over 35) in a 'double family bure' which was really just a fancy name for 3 single beds crammed in a room with ensuite.
If you put your name down for a snorkelling trip or something, make sure the time you think it leaves, is the actual time they leave. I know everyone talks about Fiji Time but they left at 11am when we were expecting 2pm so after looking for us (we were walking all the way round the island), they left without us :( Don't be put off by the some what unhelpful ladies at reception.
The hostel facilities are pretty poor, and while I wasn't expecting luxury it did leave a lot to be desired.
Service was not good - the owner really wasn't interested in dealing with guests, although some of the people working around the hostel were helpful (we got to do some isalnd hopping & the night time activities were enjoyable).
Having said all that, I still had a good time thanks to the other travellers I met there.
