staff are NOT welcoming... NOBODY in the hostel speaks to you...they just STARE...so it is NOT the `friendly' hostel as described on websites. The place is FILTHY, the bathroom is an utter nightmare, when you step out of the horrible DIRTY shower, you feel as if your stepping into a small paddling pool, as there is more water on the floors than in the shower.
I booked a 4-bed female dorm, didnt actually realise they had mucked that up too until i was lying in bed at night and a guy walked into the room and started getting ready for bed. Staff are just rude and dont care. Been travelling for 10months, and this is by far the worst hostel i have stayed in!!!!!
The room was filthy, the amenities poorly kept (the shower door fell off...), and the staff was unprofessional. It is in a bad location near a series of strip clubs and quite a walk from the city central area. Compared to other hostels we have stayed in for our 2 month trip, this one was a dive.
Booked a double and a single rooms 6 months prior, arrived to a sign on the door saying fully occupied reception closed, don't knock don't ring, eventually got through to someone having his dinner. Eventually we were offered two dorm beds for the three of us, as the whole of Brisbane was booked out we took them. The female (bonus) dorm was fine before the bears piped up, which is why we wanted private rooms. The icing on the cake was when they tried to charge us for three beds....
make sure they dont double book you. Confirm by phone call that they have booked you correctly. You could be sleeping at their place away from where you expect to be. Also try not to walk the streets at night in fortatude vally and if happen to do so DONT GO ALONE. Their car park is small and gets conjusted so much that you cant get you car out unless you ask someone to move. Otherwise nice rooms and great cooking facilities. they dont take you out on the night life like other backpackers. not a party atmosphere.
