Could'nt wait to get out the place!

They say "Set in beautiful leafy gardens our three terraced houses are heritage listed. Unique in style and character, Glebe Village has a fantastic atmosphere and professional local staff. There's always plenty of opportunities to meet other travellers in our front courtyard or on one of our many fun activity nights. Our rooms are heated and have new bunks and mattresses. They are cleaned daily, are spacious and have new carpet throughout. Our dormitories range in size from 4 beds to 6 or 10 beds. All our Rooms are fully made up with linen
provided".
I say, entered via front garden area, very nice with tables & chairs. Greeted by pleasant reception staff, led to room in partially derelict semi-detached house next door but one. Got shown room (only one left available), large and airy with a ratty old stained carpet and holes in the ceiling. Sash windows would not close (a definite negative for security!). Dirty ant infested wash basin in the corner. Looked out of the side and back windows, garden infested with old furniture, matresses, empty beer bottles, some rotting food (imagine a waste tip and you're not far off). Whoever owns this hostel should be ashamed of themselves, they obviously have scant regard for security and welfare of their customers. The feel of the place smacks of a house where you keep paying the rent, but the landlord is too stingy to spend any of it on making any improvements to the place. Disgraceful. I imagine the only saving grace is that tennants are transient, young and loath to complain. I would definitely not consider staying at this particular hostel again. I would not reccommend this hostel to any of my friends. I stayed just the one night then walked a few metres along the road to the far superior YHA, phew!
