222 Glebe Guest House, Sydney

If you are into being patronized, treated like cattle and pushed around all the time this place is for you. The patron is a cow and rude beyond comprehension. Rules at this place include no drinks after ten and cleaning the kitchen everytime you used it. Don't be surprised if you leave the house for the day only to come back to hear that your stuff has been moved into another room. Last but not least, the overall cleanness is average at best. Enjoy!

Avoid this place if it is the last one left on earth. The mattresses have bedbugs and the management does not feel responsible to do anything about it. They also take a large security deposit from all guests and withhold it on flimsy grounds, including complaints about bedbugs. Do not believe the positive comments left here. They have been sponsored by the management! All that was said of the dictatorial attitude of the management and the lack of privacy and respect to guests is absolutely true. If you have already made the mistake of checking in, find a way out immediately. There are plenty of decent, bedbug free places around -where the management is professional, including next door. We spent a week in the studio apartment that Glebe 222 offered us. The landlady was very patronizing (but her husband was lovely and helpful) and she talked to us as if we had never rented a room before. Despite being asked to pay for a $30 cleaning fee PER PERSON! we were lectured that the cleaner did specifically NOT clean up after us and we were asked repeatedly to "keep clean" and "stay clean". We felt completely ripped off as the studio was not particularly clean nor was it a "nice" place to stay. One person could just about fit in the bathroom which was disgusting and definitely student style cleanliness. After paying a much smaller sum per week (for a much, much nicer one bedroom apt) before this house we were not impressed and we're warning you DO NOT STAY HERE!!!

I stayed at the guesthouse for about two months while travelling from Germany to Australia. What stood out is that the place is very clean and well maintained. For the money there were very good facilities such as free Internet access, free DVDs and cable TV.. They even provide you with your own space in the fridge. I liked the courtyard with palm trees where I could do some studying and also use the BBQ. You even get your own plates, cups, etc.! The owner can be a bit bossy but only when there is a good reason and people are making a mess in common places or making things that impact other residents. I think this was good because it keeps the house organised. They also clean your room twice a week!! I was very happy with my stay. Glebe is very close to central Sydney. Made some good friends I still email with. Can recommend if your are looking for a very clean and quiet place with extensive facilities and included extras. Do not recommend if you are looking for lot's of partying or a backpacker scene.

This operations is a rip off. The landlady is rude. What they advertise is not what you get. I was put in a separate building that is really just a slum that has had a coat of paint. There is no living area. DO NOTS STAY HERE

Glebe is a very nice place. I enjoyed my time there a lot. It's not to fare away from the city (15-20 min bus (4 different routs), 30 min walk, $8-$10 Taxi). There are two big parks around, a lot of shops, bars and restaurants. And there is a direct bus rout to coogee beach, one of my favourite city beaches! The house is VERY clean!!! And that's very important, belief me!!! I saw a lot of other places and many friends of mine had to change there places a lot of times, because it was to dirty or they had animals (e.g. cockroaches) there. Liz and Geoff are very friendly and helpful. Yes, it's right they have a lot of roles. But you need roles if you stay with a lot of people. And it works, belief me! If you comply with the roles, there are no problems. The roles are only about being quiet during the night, don't drink after 10/11 in the house and to protect the cleanliness. Sydney is a big city - if you like party go out! The equipment in the house is also very good. You have your own crockery, your own space in the fridge, all you need to cook, washing machine and dryer, TV in you room or DVD player in the kitchen, an internet station for free, etc. Liz and Geoff are very strive to repair or replace, if something is broken. Generally, they modernized a lot of things during my tree month stay there. At least a very good accommodation! Thank you Liz and Geoff!!!

This is most definately the cleanest place that I stayed in during my four months of working abroad. Unlike many guesthouses or hostels, there is a regular full-time cleaning staff that keeps the place ridiculously clean. It is a short distance to the city, usually just 15 minutes by bus to the CBD. Keep in mind though that these busses, while convienent, do make noise out on the main road. There are many rules which keep the place from being crazy all the time and allows people to work and study. The people who stay at the house are really great, lots of Americans, Canadians, Brits, Germans, Europeans, and others. There are certainally cheaper places to stay, closer to the city, but if you are looking to stay in a clean inner-suburb, you should consider looking at 222.

I would never stay in this house again. The landlady is like a dictator with too many rules in the house and its not as relaxed as one would like to think. Being woken up too early in the morning to the sounds of the hoover and the landlady complaining about something. I also find that there was no privacy in the house with cleaners going into your room all the time and the same with the landlady. I have also witnessed a housemates belongings being rifled through and packed into his suitcase for no particular reason. Rediculous. Glebe is relatively nice, not tooo far from the CBD but maybe a bit too quite for some people. Some nice bars and also some very nice restaurants and take aways. Just a shame about 222 Glebe Point Road and the landlady.
