Las Rejas Hostel, General GüEMES

I was surprised by how nice the hostel was when I walked into my room -- the shower had a bathroom curtain on it and was separated from the floor so the floor doesn't get completely wet when you take a shower (small but noticeable difference if you've ever been in a hostel that has the shower head next to the toilet with no curtain). The hostel is not a party hostel and is relatively quiet. If people are staying in the hostel they will most likely get together in a group and go out or chat in the big main lounge. The hostel was full when I was staying there so I met a lot of great travelers and we went out to eat and drink. I stayed in room 5 which is split into 2 open rooms with 4 beds. The fan in my part of the big room was broken and every time you turned it on it sounded like a plane was crashing. A minor detail but worth noting if that is important to you. I didn't eat breakfast at the hostel but I did have a coffee and it was normal like any other coffee you will find around here. The staff is friendly and well informed. They speak a few languages so you don't have to know Spanish to stay here. The location is great -- only a few blocks from Plaza 9 de Julio and from the restaurant district on Balcarce Street. All in all I would recommend this hostel if you are coming to Salta and want to be close to everything and don't mind that it is not a party hostel.
