On the shores of the Banderas Bay lies the Hacienda San Angel. With its hay-topped roof, potted plants at the windows, white walls and tiled arches, it resembles a country home rather than a boutique hotel. Walk in and you will witness the melange of colonial and modern day architecture: sprawling courtyards, magnificent hallways and decadent rooms welcome guests. Quaint furniture adorns the dwelling—be on the lookout for a table on wheels or water-spouting gargoyles in the lush garden. The property comprises of five villas and nine art-embellished suites. In addition to a decent breakfast each morning, guests are treated to musical evenings in the living room. Besides, terrace-top dining, spa and tour services abound too. Though the resort is more suited to couples than families, it is well worth your money if you are looking for top-notch service, luxury and seclusion.
We booked a four night stay at the Hacienda San Angel based upon the terrific press and reviews of the boutique hotel. We were told that the Hacienda San Angel was the "Four Seasons" of southern Puerto Vallarta for discriminating travelers. The hotel was indeed unique and charming and the hotel staff were incredible. However, the accommodations are NOT equivalent to a Four Seasons-level experience and not worth the steep price. We were also gravely offended by the manner in which the owner of the hotel treated us when we asked for local advice and assistance that is routine at five and even four star hotels. We were actually insulted by the owner of the hotel, something that should never happen anywhere, but particularly at this level of hotel and price point! We were disappointed at the treatment and our experience and, unfortunately, will not return and will strongly advise friends and family to research other options when staying in this area. If the owner was not involved and/or avoided direct interaction with the guests perhaps candid reviews of this hotel would have been different. Until then, however, this hotel should be avoided.
This is truely the most beautiful, romantic and relaxing place we have ever been in all of Mexico. The hostess of the Hacienda has an eye for the most beautiful furnishings in any hotel we've stayed in. The staff is FIRST class. The food is extrodinary, Once you check in you will NEVER wish to leave. We cannot wait till next year to return....
