We stayed at the Hotel Universo two nights because it was in a good location near the train station and near family studying in Florence. It's a basic Italian hotel with basic service. The staff was fine and never rude. It's OK if you are looking for a just a place to sleep and use it as the starting point to see Florence and the surronding areas. This is a decent place to stay, our room was a good size, no worries. They just don't do bacon and eggs for breakast in most of Italy, what they served was simple and fine for us
On the good side, the location is fine, a few minutes walk from the train on a nice little square. The staff were nasty and ruda and could barely speak English, the room had no closest or drawers of any kind so that when you left all your things are exposed, and you can't unpack, and the breakfast was rolls and juice, and not much more. Avoid this hotel.
