What A Joke!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
By ,
The servers and majority of the staff was absolutely fabulous (especially Carlos), but the concierge and management were unbelievably rude. I spent 11 days at the mayakoba, the first few days were great. On the sixth day I recieved food poisoning and had to rush to the emergency room in Playa after 3 days of craping my brains out. The resort is the only place I ate at the entire stay, so I can say that I'm sure I was sickened by the food at the Fairmont. After maxing my credit card out at the emergency room halfway through my treatment, I returned to the hotel and tried to speak with the manager, who never did contact me, instead he sent me some low level employee to convince me that it is impossible to recieve food poisoning at a 5 diamond resort. I was then told that I most likely contracted the illness from enjoying too much sun, really? Food poisened by the sun? When I asked if they were willing to re-emburse some of my medical expenses, I was told that since I had travelled there with a collegue of the fairmont, I would recieve no compensation, but if I was a "normal guest" they would consider it. I was then offered a free bottle of water for my troubles. Be very careful visiting this place, there are plenty of other choices in the area. I would not recomend anyone to visit fairmont mayakoba, it is overated and over priced, be prepared to be nickel and dimed for everything.

Very nice hotel
By ,
We just got back from our stay during Easter Week 2008. Staff: Very firendly and polite. Would bend over backward to do what was needed. Rooms: Very nice and clean. No insects of any kind inside the room (as others have said). As a matter of fact aside from one mosquito bite, we neither saw nor felt any insects (inside or outside) while we were there. We did not stay in the main hotel, but in one of the 4 room "houses" that are scattered throughout the property. I liked this alot as I sleep very lightly and don't like all of the guests slamming their doors all morning as they get up and leave for breakast. This was a very quiet room with good soundproofing. Pools and Grounds: Pools were clean and well kept. Beach: Water was warm and beautiful with no huge waves to worry about as in Hawaii Restaurants: Food was good. Service was somewhat slow, but this was seen EVERYWHERE we went in Mexico, not just the hotel. You are in another country and dealing with another culture so you just need to slow down and relax. The waitstaff was very helpful and friendly. If you are a Type A, don't go anywhere in Mexico. Hygiene: We ate in the hotel most breakfasts and luches and ate dinner mostly in Playa del Carmen. None of us got sick at all. We would definitely go here again.

A dream come true!
By ,
We stayed in mid-march 2007. We stayed in the lowest fare room which was also in the biggest building which was only four stories. The place is so beautiful the website doesn't even come close to describing how unique it is. The setting is amongst the lush mangroves with incredible wildlife and serene quiet scenery. We were carefully attended to by the staff at the pool and the main desk and the restaurants. The entire stay was an absolute dream of comfort and beautiful surroundings. The architecture is truly beautiful and I also like the Fairmont's environmental protection policy. Enjoy your trip it's really amazing.

Robery at Mayakoba
By ,
Tucked away in a secluded Casita by the Beach, I thought we would be safe. For $1500.00 a night with private butlor...I thought we were in for a treat, until Our room was broken into by the group of grounds workers hiding in the bushes... They stole all my money and a other items. Do not get a ground floor unit by the beach because anyone can break in an get away un-noticed ... no security cameras and no security guards to protect you from gangs... keep your money in America if possible...

I didn't ask for a tarantula in my room!
By ,
My wife and I chose the Fairmont Mayakoba as our honeymoon destination. We specifically requested a room on the highest floor, as we have visited Mexico before and while we have always enjoyed its beauty, we are aware that there are creatures in the jungle. We were given a room on the 4th floor, at the top of the hotel. On the day before our departure, my wife went into the bathroom, and exited screaming that there was "the biggest bug she ever saw" in the bathtub. When I entered the bathroom, I immediately exited it, and closed the door in shock. I re-entered with a camera and took pictures. I told my wife to call for help immediately, there's a tarantula in our tub! 15 minutes later, a security employee equipped only with a clipboard entered. He saw the tarantula, and told us "he was scared". He called for reinforcements. We spent the rest of the day lugging around our valuables while waiting for a room without a tarantula. We also spent about 2 hours arguing with different customer service representatives about what we thought reasonable compensation would be for our ruined day. For a 5 star resort, they were not understanding of this frightening experience. We left the next day in disgust. We will never visit another Fairmont.
