Champagne Palace Hotel, Rome

After reading reviews on several different web sites about this hotel, I was apprehensive about staying at this hotel (which was recommended by my travel agent). My group of 25 stayed there 2 weeks ago. What you need to remember is that you are staying in European hotels - not a U.S. chain of hotels. I've been to Europe in the summer, and air conditioning in Europe isn't what it is in the U.S. I vowed I'd never go back to Europe in the summer after that trip - only when it was cooler, which is why I opted for a spring trip. This hotel was clean, breakfast was good and the staff was friendly. The only drawback, if you will, was that there was a flight of marble steps going up into the hotel, and a very small elevator that only holds 4 people (without luggage). It was close to restaurants and shops, and 2 block from the train station, so we were able to get around very easily. I felt safe walking around at night, too. The only drawback was that we had luke warm to cold water in our room, and no hot showers, but that was only one room - the others in my group all had warm or hot water. If you don't want European charm then stay at a Motel 6.

We just returned from a holiday to Rome, we were booked into the hotel chapagne palace but when we got there we were told we had been changed to the other hotel the champagne gardens, the man at reception marked out the new hotel on the map and wanted us to walk there with our luggage, the new hotel was a lot further out than this one, he only offered to get someone to take us when we objected to walking there. When we arrived at the hotel the air conditing didnt work, the rooms were small and I had to go down and ask for a explanation of how to use the safe and how long a code it required (6 digits). Nothing to tell you in the room. Double bedroom is twin beds. The shower our friends had was tiny and no power shower. We had a bath, breakfast is buns, salami and nutella with cornflakes, toast would have been nice. Would not go ever again

This hotel is not to be recommended. I stayed for three nites, already paid and not allowed to cancel. The staff was rude and uninterested in helping tourist or making sure that problems were addressed. Shower was a semi-cricled area of about 15 inches where most normal persons can not fit without having the broken and dirty shower curtain stick to your body. The shower curtain was broken in several places and did not hook to the support metal wires. The level of the shower floor was all the same level thus, the whole bathroom end up very wet. The shower head was broken of the handle and not stayed up. Reported problems to the staff but not received any assistance. This was in sharp contrast with hotel in Florence and Venice where staff was attentive to problems. Only positives: near Termini (train station) and had beds. This hotel is at best one or two stars but for sure not four as announced.

What I liked best about this Hotel was it's location. It's within walking distance of the Termini (train station) and there, you can hop on trains going to other parts of Italy and beyond, as well as the local Metro and buses you can take to get around Rome. The rooms are small, but clean and the service is friendly. The neighborhood gets a bit dicey late at night, so, if you find yourself out late, take a taxi back to the hotel, it will drop you off at the door

This was a last minute change of hotels while on tour...went to place valuables in safety deposit box..it was locked and manager "could not open it"..despite thinking I had hidden things well, a bracelet was stolen...other people on tour lost camera...BEWARE! Staff seemed overwhelmed and did not communicate well.Room very small ..Bathroom generally ok, Great location, however.

The very, very small, even for European standards, room was nice. It had new furnature and fresh paint. We had two rooms, for some reason the bathrooms always smelled. Also, the front desk told us the best way to the airport was via a taxi, which we paid 55 euros for. When we got to the airport the taxi driver told us the standard fare was 35. Nice.
