Already Planning Our Next Stay at the Argonaut
By ,
We are already planning our next visit to this hotel. We stayed here for three days for our anniversary in the company of our little bichon and had such a wonderful experience. The staff was amazing, incredibly helpful, and always treated our little dog like she was a valued guest as well. She loved the attention of the doormen and the front desk each time she came through. The Argonaut truly made us feel at home. We purchased a three day pass for the cable car/trolley car/muni system at the cable car turnaround right next door to the hotel which made it so easy to get around San Francisco and Fisherman's Wharf. We are planning to give an Argonaut gift certificate to our son and daughter-in-law for Christmas this year. We can't think of any other hotel in San Francisco we'd rather share with them.

A great overall place to stay !
By ,
My most vivid memory was leaving the hotel every morning and as I exited the smell of the sea and the crabs and other seafood being prepared for the day.It kick-started my senses and made each day a new adventure.Close to a variety of transportation I had no need for a rental car.I travelled all over the city on public transportation and it was wonderful.Everyone I met was friendly and talkative.I'm from the South and we appreciate and enjoy talking to people. You cannot beat the location and the service was awesome !! I give it a 9 out of 10!!

Average at Best
By ,
I recently stayed at the Argonaut during a vacation to San Fran. The location is fantastic, however, the hotel lacks amenities like vending machines. In addition, they have a happy hour only serving wine for an hour. That is great if you like wine, but i'm a beer drinker. The bed was terrible and hotel has plenty of extra costs if you are not careful, I.E. parking fee. I have stayed a Fairfield Marriotts that were nicer.

Wonderful Atmosphere
By ,
I came to the Argonaut for a business meeting and I enjoyed the hotel immensely. The lobby was beautiful and the water themed decor from the lovely ship to the deck chairs were unique and inviting. The service was fantastic. Every question was answered with a smile and every request was accomodated. I just loved the doorman uniforms! The location was very centralized. I did not need to rent a car. The cable car, which is accross the street, took you down to Union Square and you can even get off at Lombard Street and walk down it. Ferry landings are a 10 minute walk away and tour busses are close by. Not to mention the restaurants within walking distance. My only complaint is that the TV station selection left a lot to be desired. (no cable movie channells) I quess they figure with so much to do you won't be in your room to watch TV. I also wish I could have gotten a room with a view. Maybe next time! If you can afford to splurge, treat yourself and or your special someone to a stay at the Argonaut.

A good base from which to explore
By ,
The location and building are very good - it is in a revamped part of the old fruit cannery. Only a stones-throw from all the action on Fishermans Wharf. Transport is excellent. One of the cable car lines end at the side of the building, and the tram service terminates just 2 blocks away. I arrived at 10.30 pm after the dining room had closed, but room service extends to midnight and provided a good meal. The dining room is noisy with a bar in the middle that gets a number of drinkers at it, some with strident voices. The initial impact is one of chaos, but the head waiter is very quick to come and leads you to a table. Ask for one in a remote corner if oyu want to be able to converse over dinner. The food and service were both excellent. I recommend it.

Parking fine print $40 per night
By ,
Unknown to us was the $40 per night parking charge. Beware! It really did not make it a very good deal at all. Good location and a fine hotel otherwise

Nice hotel but be warned
By ,
The Argonaut is a very cute and friendly hotel with goofy rooms shaped like ship cabins (long and narrow) but still very comfortable. Because of its location near the Wharf, the Argonaut does not really cater to business travelers. It's just a very nice tourist hotel. Nicer than most other hotels in that area. However, on weekends, the place is crawling with badly behaved children running up and down the halls at all hours of the night. I imagine it's like that all summer too. Although it's a newish hotel, it's retrograde in a lot of ways.... the wifi in the rooms doesn't really work. There are no soda machines...if you want a Coke, you have to buy it from the mini-bar or walk two blocks to Walgreens.

Great Place to Stay
By ,
My husband and I stayed at the Argonaut for our honeymoon. The location is amazing, we were able to walk to everything we wanted to see. The bed was sooo comfortable and rooms are nicely decorated. The only bad thing about this hotel is the price. For people on budget, this hotel is not for you. However it was a wonderful place to stay for a special occasion.

Great hotel!
By ,
We stayed in the Argonaut Hotel two nights on 8/24/07 and had a great experience! They took care of all of our needs with no complaints. Here’s the rundown: Room - Modestly-sized (average for most San Francisco hotel) but spectacular in design and layout with exposed brick walls, heavy wood beams and a cool nautical theme. My 7 year old son was amazed! - We faced the street and the windows were good at keeping out street noise - Bathroom was very clean was relatively large Property - Didn’t spend too much time in the hotel lobby, but it was awesome! Lotsa couches for hanging out and a complimentary cocktail/wine party - While it is in the Fisherman’s Wharf area, it’s situated toward the end of the street, so it’s a few blocks away from the “cheesier” parts of the Wharf - Restaurant was good, though we only ate one breakfast Service - Staff was always helpful with stowing luggage, calling a cab and general sightseeing tips - Free wired Internet was provided in all rooms and wireless (though signal was weak) was available in the lobby - My son got to ‘adopt’ a fish in a small fishbowl for the duration of the stay - nice! The success of this hotel comes from the hard working and highly detail-oriented staff. I would highly recommend this hotel.
