You Must Book This Hotel
By ,
This was by far the best hotel I have ever stayed in. The staff was helpful, pleasant, and full of southern hospitality. The bathrooms in the rooms are amazing. The beds are amazing. Absolutely beautiful, the hotel has all antique furniture. I almost wished there was a chain of these hotels, but then it would take away the personal feeling the hotel offers. Very clean hotel. If you wonder about this hotel, wonder no more Book your hotel room now!! The room alone felt like a vacation. My husband and I felt at home. I liked everything about this hotel. I wish I had more time just to look around the hotel like the library. The library looked interesting and amazing. If I ever go back to the Bristol races I will book this hotel time and time again.

Poor customer service
By ,
We stayed in this beautiful property over the Fourth of July weekend. Gorgeous public areas and nice room. However, there was damage done by the housekeeping staff to a medically necessary breathing apparatus. Hotel denies moving or dropping the unit which was rendered totally non-working for the second night. Front desk clerk understood the damage and took a report, but hotel management denies any responsibility and refuses any compensation for a unit valued at nearly $800.00. The fact the floor was wet beneath the unit shows that something happened. I certainly will be filing in court to recover these damages. Ruined a wonderful weekend getaway. Room Tip: Guard any electronics or equipment!!

Wonderful time
By ,
This hotel is an experience. It's a step back in time. The location is perfect for those of you who have family at ETSU, it's literally acrosss the street from the front gates of the college. The bar and on location restaurant are extremely good. The bartender could be a little more attentive, but the atmosphere more then makes up this. There's a full service spa that was full the weekend I was there but I will certainly book a treatment the next time I stay here. The bed is soooo comfortable and the bathroom was huge. If you ever get the chance to stay here please do so.

Can I get a cup of coffee?
By ,
The property seemed nice enough at check-in but as a frequent traveler, I can tell you that the service was sub-par. This morning shortly after 10 a.m. I went down to the lobby to see if there was some coffee available. When I found that there was not any and that the restaurant had closed at 10, I inquired at the front desk if there was coffee available, as the 1-cup coffee maker in my room was inoperative. The front desk clerk informed me that the coffee had been taken up and the restaurant was closed, but there was a Shell gas station across the street that had pretty good coffee or there's a McDonald's just down the road and they have really good coffee. I was speechless at first, but once I recovered from this shocking statement, I asked about getting a new coffee maker in my room to which she replied in a rather indignant manner, "I'll have to call maintenance and see if they have one." I was incredulous! As someone who travels a lot for work and stays in a lot of hotels, I don't care about the tile or marble in the bathroom, what I care about is that the people working there act like they're are glad I chose to stay there. Obviously, this property management does not provide adequate training for their staff in this customer service area. I will never stay here again and I will not recommend this property to anyone.

A pleasant surprise!
By ,
We chose the Carnegie based on internet research only while planning a short overnight getaway to the mountains. We were very pleased with the accomodations. The bathroom size was great..better than 4 star properties we have visited lately. The room was large and clean with a comfy leather couch. Wellington's restaurant was superb. We had dinner and breakfast. Each meal was well prepared, and presentation was first class. Road noise was apparent since our room faced the major highway, but that was the only remotely negative comment we would make. This was indeed a pleasant place to stay, and we would welcome another chance to enjoy the hotel.

Not What Expected...
By ,
Beautiful and spacious but staff was not very friendly and noisy due to traffic on highway. We left a day early because it was too loud to sleep!

Charming and Elegant
By ,
Our first time in this city, we relied on internet research to choose our hotel. We were pleasantly surprised by this historic gem. The hotel is beautifully maintained offering the character of a historic landmark, with it's high ceilings and period furniture, with the modern necessities of updated bathrooms and modern lighting. We had a gorgeous king sized sleigh bed in our very spacious room, in addition to a sitting area complete with a full-sized sofa and coffee table. We were in town for a few days of Martial Arts events, and the hotel's location was convenient to all of the different sites involved. My only "less-than-pleasant" observation is that the front desk staff wasn't very welcoming and were made to feel as though we were interrupting their conversation by checking in. This did surprise me, considering the overall beauty and elegance of the hotel. I expected the type of gracious greeting/service I've experienced at other nice hotels. However, without a doubt, we will stay at the Carnegie Hotel again when we return to Johnson City, TN.

DINNER WAS FANTASTIC
By ,
my wife and I enjoyed her birthday dinner at ( after considering all the top Johnson city restaurants) Wellingtons. We sat at a table for 2 and were waited on in minutes. The server was happy and friendly, The server offered appetizers which we were hesitant to accept as they are not inexpensive, well we chose 2 the scallops and the mussels. Both were unbelievable and could have been the meal alone. My wife ordered shrimp and I had steak. The shrimp plate was full of very large shrimp which my wife devoured with a grin, the steak with red eye gravy (which had me concerned) was perfect Thick and juicy and tender the only thing that dampened our experience was the shoe string fries piled on the steak although they appeared home cut i would have preferred wedges or baked potato but what the heck I was to full to eat them anyway . Thanks to all for making my wife's birthday SPECIAL

Impressive
By ,
The only downside of the hotel was its restaurant, but other than that - it was a great place to stay, and the staff was more than accommodating. I travel a lot for business, and this was one of my more pleasant stays while away from home.
