Much better values around
We wound up paying about the same (less than $2/day difference) as it would have cost to have had the class of room (as we booked, read on) in a Lake Superior view room at the Holiday Inn Express...instead, we got stuck in a ground floor handicap room and the excuse that the hotel was fully booked (it may have been, but they didn't even offer to change us to what we had booked after most of the other people left). The hotel has a shallow pool with a waterslide that means that there will be a LOT of kids staying there, but surprisingly it wasn't very noisy. The beds do NOT have box springs, but are on a sheet of plywood which means that it'll be noisy if you roll over. There also aren't any closets, they have short wardrobes instead. In the bathroom, there isn't much counterspace (single basin sink and surround only) and NO EXHAUST FAN or WINDOW!!! I've never been anyplace, in or out of the U.S., where that was allowed. We didn't see any sign of mold or mildew, but the place is new. They also have a breakfast room. While we were there, you could choose from Cheerios or Lucky Charms, four flavors of Yoplait yogurt (2 Trix, 2 adult flavors), a little basket of instant Quaker oatmeal, a couple varieties of donuts, an english muffin, a banana (very, very green), hard boiled egg, coffee, heavily watered down orange or apple juice, or make a waffle. The apple juice further had the flavor of the cleanser they use in the dispenser. The hotel also lists WiFi which most modern browsers will not stay connected to as they have a totally unprotected network (not even WEP) and depend on free software for antivirus protection...they don't advertise it, but they also have wired Fast Ethernet in the rooms and that works fine...if you do use their Internet access, just be careful and don't send any personal info due to its unprotected nature. They do have a couple of desktop Dells in the lobby that you may use as well, and in spite of all the use by children, they basically work OK.
You might like the experience if you are a young family trying to save a few dollars on breakfast and keeping the kids busy at the pool, but for most people, you can do better for the money. We intend to return to the area, but not this hotel.
