Rose River Inn Bed and Breakfast, Astoria

When my wife asked me to write a short review of Rose River Inn Bed & Breakfast, Astoria, I relished the opportunity to pen some personal observations about the area, the property and its owners David and Pam Armstrong. On arrival at 1510 Franklin Avenue, we received an enthusiastic welcome from owners Pam and David (including Penny Lane) who immediately set about making us feel right at home with their friendly fun and chat. Aside from my fondness for the built heritage, I recall my immediate delight on seeing this immaculate Edwardian property on three levels. Inside is as delightful as out; with tasteful neutral colours against interesting shapes and surfaces, matched equally by a verifiable sense of history as told us by its careful owners. The large downstairs lounge is bright and welcoming, whilst radiating a pleasant sense of warmth. The house is also atmospheric, as one would expect from an older property. Later that evening, on retiring to the aptly named "Inspiration" room with a glass of favourite Rosemount Shiraz, I marvel at the peaceful solitude of the surrounding neighbourhood as our party relaxes to indulge its fondness, as it does, of anecdotal storytelling. Yes, indeed, Rose River Inn will go down in memory, together with Astoria, as one of our favourite "west-coast" places to stay.

Neither my boyfriend or I had ever stayed at a bed and breakfast before and so we decided to stay here. Pam and Dave greeted us with a smile and really made us feel at home. They were really helpful about telling us good places to eat dinner and very knowledgeable about the area. Breakfast was delicious and she served a yummy lemon cake at the end that was to die for! They also have the cutest little chihuahua named Penny Lane who was friendly and ran around the house like she owned it. We will definitely stay here again!!!
