We loved this B&B!
By Elaine, 12/16/08
This was our first B&B experience and it was fantastic. The house was beautiful and in impeccable condition. Each and every detail was attended to. We were welcomed with our names on the front door upon arrival, the room was warm and cozy (it was December and freezing outside) and our breakfast was served at the exact time requested each day. Judy's breakfasts are out of this world and very filling. I bought her cookbook and if you like to make wonderful breakfasts or entertaining treats, it is filled with - what seems like - 100's of delightful recipes. I am making the Blueberry Streusel French Toast for our Christmas Breakfast. I would recommend the Franklin Inn on Durkee to everyone!!

Awesome Stay
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/25/08
My partner and I are planning on relocating in the future, and wanted to check out Appleton, Wisconsin as a possible place to live. We decided to stay at a bed and breakfast in hopes of getting the innkeeper's insight on the area, including restaurants, people, and things to do. The Franklin Street Inn's innkeeper, Judy, proved to be an amiable and competent host. From the personal greeting on the chalkboard at the front door, to the candies left on the bed, all of our needs as guests were meticulously considered. The house is a grandiose victorian, with each room appointed in period furnishings. Some rooms include a whirlpool bath or fireplace, and all come with a feeling of home. Judy does not miss a trick when it comes to catering to each guest. Every effort is made to make the guest feel comfortable, and meet his every need. Judy loves to cook and it shows in her breakfasts. Each meal is hand prepared and served to order, with fresh fruit, juice and coffee ready when you are. She has a passion for baking, with warm pastries coming out of the oven before you are out of bed. We are owners of an Inn in Connecticut, and know the effort of making a guest feel satisfied. During our visit with Judy, we wanted for nothing, and actually had some of our needs anticipated. When visiting Appleton, we highly recommend staying at the Franklin Street Inn. Rest assured Judy will take good care of you. We look forward to staying with her again.

Jewel of Appleton
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/23/08
The perfect place to stay, location for shopping is excellent. Our stay with the owners Judy and her husband Ron was very pleasant. Judy is very welcoming, and so is the beautiful Victorian house. Our bedroom with the big jacuzzi was very comfortable and very pristine. Lots of history and interesting things to read and see. Judy's heart and soul have been put into making this bed and breakfast a Jewel. The breakfasts are amazing and again a lot of preparation and love has gone into this. As we sat down to breakfast it's like going back in time, surrounded in history. We had a wonderful day shopping, eating and chatting to our hosts. Thinking of Christmas shopping or just being adventurous, stay here you will not be disappointed .We will be back Judy.Next time I hope you have your recipe book for sale .

A Restful Experience
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/23/08
After a few noisy nights at a local big-chain hotel (weekends out of control - no rest), I moved my business-related stay to this inn and got some quiet peace as well as fine hospitality and service (including car brush-off after overnight snow!). Warm even on the coldest February night. Fascinating antique setting. Breakfast was a gourmet treat, healthful and different each day. Very convenient to downtown restaurants and attractions. Highly recommended, and should be experienced at least once by any regular or special-occasion traveler.

Highest Level Customer Service
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/23/08
I recently had the good fortune to stay in the beautiful Franklin Street Inn Bed and Breakfast in Appleton, Wisconsin, and would highly recommend it! The owners, Judy and Ron Halma, are wonderful and friendly people, who are completely committed to customer service at the highest level. The Inn is a fabulous Victorian home, tastefully decorated in period style. It is impeccably clean, the beds are blissfully comfortable, and breakfasts are delicious and piping hot. Judy is the perfect, dedicated hostess, and I felt pampered and very well cared for during my stay. If you enjoy beautiful historic homes, friendly conversation, and period decor (especially check out the Turret Suite - it is stunning!), then you will enjoy the Franklin Street Inn as much as I did!

Home Away From Home
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/23/08
We have stayed at the Franklin Street Inn numberous times, having the opportunity to sample all of the rooms. This has become our home away from home when we visit Appleton. Our favorites are the Turret and the Franklin Rooms. While the Inn is welcoming to families, the rooms certainly lend themselves to romantic getaways for two (double whirlpools and fireplaces in some rooms). The Turret can be booked for up to 5 or 6 people, but there is limited privacy with the in-room whirlpool (though it is a perfect set up for romance). The Franklin Street Inn is conveniently located in downtown Appleton, WI, two blocks from Lawrence University, near countless good restaurants, and less than a mile from the new Fox Valley Performing Arts Center. But you might have a hard time leaving your luxurious room, especially if you book the Turret Suite. This charming Victorian house, turned Bed-and-Breakfast, has all the modern amenities: comfortable beds (Oooo, those wonderful sheets!), whirlpool tubs (built for two), AC, ceiling fans, good lighting (can be adjusted for mood), and off street parking. Breakfast is always delicious, including juice, bottomless hot beverage (your choice of tea, coffee, hot chocolate), and might be.a fruit parfait, a frittata, sausage, AND homemade carmel rolls... Or it might be Judy's Turtle French toast , bacon and a fresh-made smoothie...Or in the autumn, it might be apple crisp and pumpkin waffles and sausage patties...Or--well you get the idea--always plentiful, always tasty. Judy and Ron Halma are wonderful hosts, kindly and generously opening their home to visitors. From the friendly welcome (with fresh baked chocolate chip cookies) to the way Judy remembers your preferences after you first visit , to the good advice on everything from local shopping to traffic patterns, these innkeepers have it right. You just might end up feeling like part of the family!

Will Return From California
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/23/08
We thoroughly enjoyed our experience and brief stay (1 night) at the Franklin Street Inn. Judy and Ron are very hospitable hosts and were of great help as we quickly checked in to our room. She allowed an early check-in and I was indeed grateful after earlier finishing the Milwaukee Marathon and making the drive to Appleton.Upon cleaning up, Judy anticipated our needs and was waiting as we quickly came back downstairs with expidited directions to Green Bay and Lambeau field for the evening game. It was a hectic day but she made the transitions flawless for us. Much more relaxed the next morning and enjoyed a great breakfast (My wife loved the bread pudding) and leisurely walk around the historical area. It was too brief of a visit but we will return and will gladly be return guests to the Inn. Listen to the vast majority of the posts and you will indeed experience a memorable B&B stay.

Outstanding Stay by N. Carolina Wanderer
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/23/08
Judy, the Inn Keeper was extremely attentive to our needs: Early coffee, great dinner recommendations and reservations, local directions to our appointments and wonderful breakfasts, served at our convenience in a most pleasant demeanor. She asked for feedback on her recommendations so as to be current on her recommendations. Rooms were extremely clean and well appointed. Extremely reasonably priced. Safe, off street parking provided. Overall: Outstanding.

Awesome!
By Colleen, 04/30/08
I thoroughly enjoyed my 3 night stay at the Inn: had bought some products and had them posted to the Inn, prior to my arrival, which Judy was happy to oblige with. Food was amazing! Stayed in the Rhodes Room, absolutely spotless. Judy's hospitality and graciousness was very much appreciated: Loved the Olde World Theme! The Inn is within walking distance to amenities in Appleton

Can't Wait To Go Back!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/15/07
Stayed at the Franklin Street Inn last night. Impeccably clean & fairly priced. All expenditures were completely explained & up front.....tremendous VALUE! My wife and I stayed in the beautiful white carpeted Turret Suite. We were glad that the inn finally had availability for this suite. We waited two months before we could find our date. The wait was definitely worth it! Couldn't be more comfortable walking around in that plush castle theme suite and the breakfast was served at our favorite wakeup time. Judy just published her own cookbook and the very delicious breakfast recipes were shared with us.You couldn't find better people than Judy & Ron, the owners & innkeepers. We really appreciated their warm and friendly hospitality! We could tell that Judy had a passion for pleasing people with boundless energy and concern for our needs. This bed & breakfast has off street parking and flexible check in and check out time. We liked the location in a quiet historical neighborhood. The inn is decorated in period antiques and Judy enjoys sharing the history when she tours you through the inn. Thanks for the wonderful stay and we plan to send all of our friends and relatives out to stay soon!
