We look forward to going back!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/13/10
My partner and I stayed several days there and even got married there. It was so unique and beautiful!! You cannot beat the scenery and they try very hard to keep things nice. The two spas (one inside and one outside) are nice. The pool was wonderful and during the hot spell we had during our stay, was very clean and refreshing. We did not stay in our room very much but to sleep and spend our quality time together. The Inn is nice and the staff there are extremely friendly!! The owner and her partner are two awsome gals!! They helped us before our ceremony, through our ceremony, and after our marriage ceremony. It was beautiful and we could not have asked for a better group of people. We made friends (we live out of state several states away) and more than several of them even attended our wedding. The morning breakfast was nice with good conversations and meeting others. The concert special was nice also. Sonya Heller was there and sounded great! The cute basket was a warming addition to our stay and was appreciated. All in all we had a great time and feel so blessed to have been able to go to the Highlands Inn and experience it. Don't expect hot night clubs or bars nearby. Don't expect anything loud, bosterous, or expect "them" to entertain "you" as I believe mentioned in a somewhat harsh prior review. It is a beautiful Inn well kept by wonderful people. You make the decisions of what to do while there and how much fun you can get into. It is a relaxful and peaceful place to go and share time with a loved one, friends, or make new friends. The folks there are just mellow and quiet at times allowing their patrons the room to enjoy beauty and comfort of the Inn. Or, anytime you want to gab or have a question you can go and talk to them. They were courteous and have a very pleasant attitude. The rooms are clean and smell just fine. The Inn is very big and very old but well kept and that is a quality we liked. I would definitely recommend The Highlands Inn to others. THANK YOU HIGHLANDS INN FOR A WONDERFUL TIME!!!

No more!!
By sally, 3/11/09
THe idea that its a paradise and come to find out that the rooms smell like kerosine and the beds (alot of them) are double beds and uncomfortable! The dining area has a piano or table or something, I couldnt tell it was so covered with a thousand papers bills, junk mail and such it gave the room a disgusting and depressing ambience. The menus from restaurants are in 10 different places and the staff, particularly the owners could care less about entertaining us. When I asked about snow mobiling, and this was on valentines weekend, she just kind of shrugged and walked away. The place reaks of an I dont give a damn attitude......and all they wnat is your money. Their gift baskets that advertised champagne and gourmet chocolates was with a snack bag of m & m's, PLAY DOUGH, a tiny bottle of cheap champagne and some oreo cookies that can be picked up at your local gas station. I think its a crime the way this place has fallen into disrepair and heard grumblings from everyone. When we got back from a valentine dinner and wanted to use their main area for conversation and commrodery, the lights were OFF and the fireplace was unlit. Translating to all...GO AWAY and go back to bed......it was only 10:30 pm, are you kidding me. A total waste of time and money.....never again !!

Great Escape!
By alicia, 3/3/08
We enjoyed our second stay with the women of Highlands Inn. It was a relaxing get away. We enjoyed great breakfasts, charming hosts, fantastic snow shoeing, and were surprised by a lovely music concert on Saturday night by Emily Nyman and her partner Lynn. We will return again and recommend this place for a great women's retreat.

Great lesbian getaway
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/25/07
I have been going to the Highlands for many years and always enjoy it. The setting in NH's White Mountains is beautiful, the Inn itself is well and carefully maintained, and the hot breakfasts cooked to order are wonderful. Unlike some vacation areas, the White Mountains is a great spot year round. Great skiing, hiking in the spring through fall, golf, excellent local restaurants. My impression is that women love the Highlands because they feel that they can "be themselves." Which is not to say that the Highlands is a lesbian hot spot! The majority of the guests are couples. The welcoming, accepting atmosphere is such that you can feel comfortable either keeping to yourselves or socializing. In fact, I don't think I've ever been to a resort or hotel where socializing with other guests felt so easy! Be warned, though. There are no gay/lesbian clubs in the area. This is not the city. It's a restful, relaxing country inn for women. Enjoy it.

Would only go back for socializing with other lesbians....
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/20/07
The only reason we went here was because we wanted to be comfortable and be around other lesbians like ourselves. That may be the only reason we ever go back again. The innkeeper seems very phony and we couldn't believe she ran the place for 24 years. Her girlfriend seemed more in tune with everybody and went out of her way to make us happy. It seemed there was only one restaurant in town where they would refer people to and that was Cold Mountain Cafe and the food stunk. We tried many other places and found that the food was excellent. It seemed as if she had some kind of deal with the people from Cold Mountain. Lights out at 11pm. If you're sitting in the lounge area by the fireplace they get really annoyed and will pretty much start turning lights off around you. There is a smoking area on the porch and although it says you can smoke there, she tells you she prefers you NOT smoke there. Also, there is a refrigerator on the porch in the freezinf cold for the guests, which does not work out well in the winter if you really think about it. The area for the guests look unmaintained and dirty and the milk in the refrigerator was expired 2 weeks before we got there. There was no coffee on the table half of the time and we had to make it ourselves. 100% of the guests agreed with us about all the things I am telling you here, so we knew it wasn't just us. It kinda felt like we were living with Mommy Dearest. If you do decide to go here you will meet tons of amazing people and probably go on to be friends with them forever. Unfortunately, don't expect gourmet brekfasts and don't expect a party place. At night you are urged by signs and slamming doors not to make noise because the walls are thin. The highlight of the hotel is the spa! Go with a bunch of friends, expect to eat out alot, drive to Mount Washington for skiing or anything of that sort and be prepared to relax because there isn't much of a party going on in this place.
