The inn has a perfect location in relation to the city of Freeport. We were so close to shopping, dining, and nature. The room, linens, and grounds were all very clean. We stayed in the Alev Suite and hope to try out the Aidan Suite next time! The staff was very friendly, but allowed guests appropriate privacy. We will definitely be back!
The Applewood Inn is everything you could want in a B&B--and more, I'd wager. I've only stayed there once, but I will certainly return.
The Applewood is located on a quiet street with easy access to the shops in Freeport and a quick drive to some wonderful hiking or beach/shore activities. There are several great restaurants within walking distance, but we ordered take-out (from one of those great restaurants) because we didn't want to leave our room! It was so comfortable and cozy--refrigerator, TV w/cable, extremely comfortable king bed--but also boasted other tasteful details in the art and decorating that anticipated a traveler's needs and desire for beautiful surroundings.
The breakfast in the morning was fabulous--juice, coffee/tea, toast, bacon, a choice between two main entrees--all made by the proprietor's father on a moment's notice! Jay's care for the comfort of his clients is peerless, and we feel so fortunate to have stumbled upon this bed and breakfast. It was a restorative, rejuvenating visit (for a reasonable price, no less) and one we hope to make again very soon.
The people who gave this place only one star, must have mistaken this for another B&B. That is the only logical conclusion I could have come to after staying here with my wife this weekend.
1. The service was flawless, anything we needed they would make sure to provide for us. Everyone was warm and friendly.
2. The place was extremely clean in every sense of the word. I don't know how else to explain that.
3. OK I DO NOT KNOW HOW ANYONE COULD BE UPSET ABOUT THIS LOCATION. It is a two minute walk from all the shops while nicely secluded by trees.
EVERYTHING WAS PERFECT, from the service to the food to the wonderful Colonial Style New England dining room.
We both had a wonderful time and will DEFINITELY be returning
Applewood Inn - the best place to stay in Freeport
By A Yahoo Contributor, 10/22/11
I had never stayed at an inn before so I took the opportunity to stay at Applewood. It is a family run business, and the family is delightful. I was the first one down for breakfast so I hung out with Papa JAY while he cooked. We were served the entire menu unless we declined something. We were offered an omelet, French toast, country fries, fruit, juice and coffee. The breakfast group included four people from Italy, a couple from Georgia and me. Conversation was lively before we all left for our day's plans.
My accommodations were quite spacious. The front half of the second floor was all mine. The linens were bright and comfortable. The bed was snuggly. There was a seating arrangement in front of the bay window. There were four windows if you count the one in the bathroom. Everything was clean and fresh.
I live in the AZ desert so I really enjoyed the cool weather and the rain. The next time that I am in Freeport, I intend to stay at Applewood. I will pick a slightly warmer and drier time so that I can open the windows to enjoy the breezes.
If you are looking for the warmth and personal touch of staying in a home as opposed to cookie-cutter motels/hotels, then this is the place for you!
I came here with a group of friends for a "girls weekend" and we could not have asked for a more pleasant and enjoyable experience. Jay and Jenn were so welcoming and friendly. They also offered great advice on where to go and what to do during our weekend visit.
The Inn itself is very well situated -just a couple blocks from all the shopping. The Inn was in great shape, nice rooms, everything up to date and we enjoyed having the owners' family around. Their kids are cute, sweet and well-behaved and Jay's father, who prepares the breakfast, was a delight, too.
Staying at the Applewood Inn was a great experience, and I recommend it. I will definitely stay again if my travels bring me back to Freeport.
We had a wonderful Labor Day weekend with our daughter, son-in-law, four month old twins and two other young couples. Jay and family make guests feel like family. We especially enjoyed breakfasts prepared by Jay's dad.
The dinnerware was dirty and the food was overcooked. The location was OK, but there is a school at the end of the road, and there were too many children and buses going by all the time creating a racket.
The price was too much for what you get. The owners were rude and their children were running around the place at all hours of the night. Very noisy as well. There were also a number of large dogs in the house. A one time stay was all it took for me to decide that I would rather stay elsewhere.
We got to our room and soon realized that there were bedbugs everywhere. Please do yourself a favor and prevent a nightmare of bedbugs. You will never be able to get rid of them no matter what you try.
for the past ten years i have stayed at the applewood inn with my extended family and each stay was excellent. the rooms are clean and the food is FANTASTIC. jay and jenn and their extended family are wonderful hosts and really make you feel at home.
