I have been traveling to Vermont for the past six years and each visit has led me back to The Fan House in Barnard. Spring, summer, and fall are my favorite times to visit this B & B. Sara, the innkeeper, is a most gracious hostess and is there to welcoming you and seeing to your every need.
No matter the season, the airy suites an comfortable beds provide a wonderful nights' rest for the weary traveler. One can leave windows open listen to birds and rain pattering on the windows or awaken to sunshine. My favorite is the Fireplace Room where I can fall asleep gazing at the stars through the skylight or awaken to the sun streaming through. The main entrance is through the kitchen which features a wonderful old wood cookstove reminiscent of times gone by. I love to relax in either the studio room or the living room. Just off the living room is a cozy library filled with an array of books that will meet everyone's interest.
The aroma of fresh ground coffee and delicious apple cake wafting up the stairs makes one ready for a hearty meal.
Breakfasts are one of a kind with fresh fruit, quiche and many other delicious dishes.
The Fan House is located near many places of interest! As a resident of the area, Sara provides a great itinerary of places to visit. Right in Barnard you can enjoy swimming in Silver Lake, visiting the General Store, or hiking. Many times I have simply wanted to "stay put" and have relax with a book by the garden. Speaking of flowers, fresh flowers from the garden will be found in every room of the inn!
The Fan House is my favorite place in Barnard and I will return again and again!
We stayed at the Fan House Bed and Breakfast last month while attending a local wedding. The Inn and location was beautiful! Sara(the owner) was great and very helpful giving us ideas of where we go, what we should do during our visit.
