Hickory Grove Motor Inn, Cooperstown

This hotel was advertised as lakefront which it was if you don't count the houses between the motel and lake. It was on the same side of the road as the lake. The motel lake area was up the road and down the hill. The beds were worn down. The room small & smelly. When I complained and essentially refused to stay due to the smell and poor upkeep, the manager reiterated the cancellation policy & kept all my money without even attempting to keep my future business. I paid a second motel bill on this stay and only regret making the reservation based on outside appearance and the website which I believe to be a little misleading. The Aalsmeer, Lake and Pines and Lake View are all superior. If this motel is my only option for Cooperstown, I'll stay home.

We had a very enjoyable time in Cooperstown and the Hickory Grove Motor Inn was a big part of it. Very friendly staff and the rooms were extremely clean. The staff attended to any needs we had in a timely manner. The beds were better than most large hotels I've stayed in.It's for sure not an elaborate NYC hotel, but if you're looking for a small, clean, reasonably priced place to spend a few days and relax; then it's great. The only negative at all for us was the continental breakfast was just ok, mostly grocery store type sweets with coffee and juice. We are already talking about a return trip.

This B & B serves as overflow when Cooperstown is sold out. The house is actually in Springfield, a tiny ramshackle village just north of Cooperstown. The inn fits into that atmosphere. We saw the host upon arrival and departure. The breakfast was indifferent continental style. Coffee, fruit, or hard boiled eggs would run out, but the host never attended the dining space. Our room was minimal. There was one towel per person and three hooks to hang our clothing (they fell from the wall the next day). There was no light in the rear, and we had to use a flashlight to come in at night. This inn would not even receive the lowest AAA rating
