Go elsewhere, anywhere else!!
The location and access to Lake Michigan made this inn a top choice for us to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The images of the rooms looked nice and were mostly clean aside from the tub being a bit dirty. The fact that a restaurant with good reviews was also on the premises sounded fantastic! Boy, were we wrong! They really need to rethink this concept!
From the moment we checked in, around 9 p.m. on a Friday, the entire inn was loud and bustling with people. All of the guest rooms are located directly above the busy restaurant and we could actually hear people's conversations from within our room! I went down and asked at the front desk what time the restaurant was supposed to close because we were tired after a long day of traveling and walking in Chicago and the loud drunkards were making it impossible to relax. The hostess said 9:00 or 9:30. Things didn't quiet down until after 11:30 p.m. and the constant slamming of the exterior door and bathrooms doors on the main level physically shook our room for hours. There is no temperature control in the rooms and we were freezing so we opened up the outside window. As the restaurant was closing up, the staff gathered outside to smoke which wafted up into our open window. We hoped our second night would be better.
The next morning we were tired but excited because the inn provides a complimentary breakfast on weekend mornings and we wanted to check out the private beach. After getting violently ill from eating the breakfast, I was feeling tired and miserable and had to lay low for most of the day. Saturday evening was a repeat of Friday night but somehow things were actually louder than before! After attempting to sleep several times and even turning on the fan in the bathroom and cranking up the lame TV (which didn't get good reception) to drown out the racket, we were still continuously awoken by the slamming door, loud yelling drunk people, and general restaurant noise. We decided, after midnight, to drive two hours and just go home where we knew it was quiet and peaceful. This meant giving up our plans to tour local wineries the next day but we couldn't handle it any more. The supposed manager of the restaurant, observed us leaving the inn and never stopped to ask what was going on?!
What a waste of money! People, please listen to me!! DO NOT stay at this inn!! It is expensive and totally not worth it, especially if you like sleep and peace. It is certainly not a place to celebrate your anniversary!
