I called in early March 2006 to book a room for our Honeymoon night in August 2006. I was told by the woman on the phone that they do not accept reservations this early...surprising to me, given that Newport is a tourist town! I voiced my surprise and asked her when they begin accepting reservations for the month of August. She informed me a month or so prior and then rudely said "I am sure if you call any of the other local B&B's that they will take your reservation at this time." I didn't know what to say...she quickly said "thank you" and hung up. I immediately called back and asked for the owner or manager...she let me know that it was her! I told her that I was shocked by her rudeness and unprofessionalism. She said she was sorry that I was angry (which I wasn't...I was more surprised!) that she wouldn't take my reservation request...I let her know that I wasn't angry, just shocked that she was turning away business. Her response was "I am sure that you didn't have your heart set on my house" - I told her that we actually loved the rooms and the history of her place...she replied "well, I don't want you staying in my house anyway!!" and hung up. I cannot begin to express what my emotional reaction was...I cannot believe that a business owner would treat a potential guest in such a manner. I am a Newport local and will be sure to share this information with my friends, family and business colleagues.
