Has potential, but misses the mark
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/28/11
This is not what I would consider a Bed and Breakfast. While it is described as historic, there is no proprietor on site to welcome you or answer any questions about its history. Apparently, the house was moved from its original location and now sits in the parking lot of a Marriott Residence Inn. After my husband and I walked around the entire Whitehall Mansion trying to find a way in and finding every door locked, we noticed a phone with instructions to dial 0 for information and that is how we found out we needed to go into the Marriott to check in and receive a key to Whitehall. Needless to say, this right away ruined the ambiance for us. The Marriott did give us a bottle of wine for our first night, but they also handed us a garbage bag filled with ice which we had to schlep back across the parking lot and up the stairs to our room at Whitehall. We did find the room itself charming and loved the bed, but the bathroom fixtures were oddly modern, again distracting from the ambiance of the mansion itself. The whirlpool tub looked discolored and uninviting (how about a nice big clawfoot tub instead). I read online that the mansion is supposed to be haunted by 2 ghosts, but I think they may have decided to go into the light after all.

Quaint

I loved the history associated with this place and the booklet to read in the room. Also the book to write your thoughts and experiences in and to read of others as well. The location was very convenient, the room very comfortable if you are OK with only a double bed! I loved the jacuzzi in the large bathroom! Would love to return.

Misleading "Mansion"
By Realfoodeater, 9/18/06
Not truly a bed and breakfast;yogurt, fruit and juice with chlorine coffee.Wine tasting was one bottle of awful white with little cubes of nasty cheese.Only five rooms in a nice but poorly restored 1771 bldg.Dusty and cobwebs in the corners.Nicely decorated, but hairs in the sink.Building sits only on the land it is built on in a huge Marriott parking lot, NO surrounding grounds. Too far to walk to Mystic seaport, no restaurants in walking distance except pizza and a Ground Round.Sheets were clean, bed comfortable. We expected more for $170, like a view of seaport or at least a yard to walk in.Difficult to find if you are unaware that it is in Marriott parking lot.

Something to see
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/22/05
This place is great! It is like going back to the 18th century. Big rooms with fireplaces. We stayed in the Lucy room, everyroom has a name for it. We are going to go back again. A real great place to stay while in Mystic.
