Cornerstone Bed and Breakfast, Omaha

My husband and I have stayed in lots of B and B's, and we love to do so. We have met so many wonderful and friendly B and B owners, which is one big reason which we prefer B and B's over hotels. However, our experience with Cornerstone was our worst B and B experience! Please beware! We were forced to cancel our reservation as our plane was canceled (and we had no way at get to Omaha.) I called Cornerstone, calmly explained, apologized, and asked to reschedule. The owner was completely hostile in response. Without apology he informed me that they would definitely charge us for BOTH nights of our stay, saying "I need my paycheck whether you come or not...it is just not my problem." More than my dismay about the lost $, I was appalled by his nastiness. I am a reasonable person...and I was pretty horrified by this experience. Be careful! If you are looking for a great B and B experience (which to me must include kind, welcoming owners) I would strongly advise booking elsewhere!

We've stayed in a lot of B&Bs all over the USA and was really disappointed in this one. It is old and drab and badly in need of major repairs. It was only long ago that it was the magnificent mansion that it proports to be. Our room was dark with heavy drapes, floral wallpaper, & mismatched, beat up old furniture. The bed backed up to a drafty window (that had no storms, so we had a cold draft blowing on us all night). The grand old bathroom had a large claw foot tub as advertised, but no attached shower or shower curtain, so we had to wash seated in the tub using a hand-held shower spigot. There were no bathroom amenities except a bar of soap (not even a hairdryer). We stayed on a weekday and got the meager continental breakfast -- Thomas' bagels (tasted jsut like their english muffins) with ancient packages of jam and cream cheese, small boxes of cereals (frosted flakes, raisin bran, etc),cut up melon, and store bought muffins. Also weak coffee and uninteresting, cheap bags of tea.

My mother and I went in Aug 2005. We stayed in the Offutt Suite two nights and the Castle View room the third night. The rooms were quiet, clean, and comfortable. The Owners were polite and courteous. I personally loved their dogs. The weekday breakfast was uncomplicated, and for that I am grateful. When Mom and I got back to the house after a day of sightseeing there were usually fresh baked goodies on the second floor landing. (YUMMY) I have plans to come and visit again with my husband, and I have recommended to friends and co-workers as an agreeable place to stay on a short trip to Omaha. I've added pictures for all to look at, I apologise that the Fireside room is so dark. The flash didn't go off. Some of the woodwork could use some repair, but its an old house...its part of the house's charm. (Honestly, doesn't your house need a little work too?) I will agree the Garden room is small, I don't have a picture of it because I couldn't get a good angle. However, it does have a nice sized bathroom, unlike the Castle View room. We enjoyed our brief stay very much. To us, it's the people who make a B&B, and both proprietors were very welcoming and people-oriented. If back in Omaha, we'd make a return visit. The house was beautifully decorated for the holidays and smelled of cider and Christmas-pine. Very welcoming!

My wife and I booked a room online. Their website is classy and they have great looking photos of rooms. We however, never saw one of those rooms. We were put in the "garden room". The room was just big emough to put an antique double bed, a small desk and a 12" television in. The paint on the cieling and walls was peeling and the view of the garden was nonexistant. The shades were pulled down. We raised them and got a view of very dirty windows and peeled paint. We told the hostess we could not stay in a room this bad and left to go to a hotel but were charged $100 anyway (five day cancellation policy. We have stayed in a lot of bed and breakfast inns all over the country and had never been disappointed until this one. Let the buyer beware!
