I would never have a function here again
By Anonymous, 5/29/11
While the venue is beautiful, the owner is the most difficult person to deal with. We met with Gayle to make a menu for a wedding shower we were planning. Gayle refused to allow us to see a menu so we could choose our selections. We said we would like a nice salad as oiur meal. She said that everyone "raves" about the Hawaiian salad. We said that sounded very nice, but we would like to see what other options were available. She told us that is not how she works and that SHE decides what is served! There is no air conditioning in the facility, so it got extremely uncomfortable for many of our guests. I would never recommend the O'Neil House to anybody, as long as Gayle is the owner!!

A Treat for My New York Husband
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/25/10
When I came back to Akron after living in New York City for many years, we stayed at The Oneil House. Gayle, the owner sat and visited with us, but gave us space also. Our room had a wood burning fireplace, which we freely used. So romantic. The architecture is such a treat. I can't wait to stay here again.

Wedding Reception
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/6/09
Everything was fabulously done. Gayle goes out of her way to make certain every detail is covered. My "now husband" and I could not have been happier with the results of our reception and have heard the same from everyone we invited. When we ran low on red wine, Gayle swiftly went to her own supply and helped us out. I know in one of the other reveiws I read, another couple ran out of beer and said Gayle and the staff were unaccomodating, etc. THIS IS NOT TRUE!!! I highly recommend the O'Neil House for any function you need to plan. You're in good hands here!!

wedding
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/4/08
We had our daughter's wedding reception and ceremony at the O'Neil house in April 2007. It was beautiful. The owners and staff made us feel very at home and totally took care of all our needs. Beautiful environment to be. I also did a champagne brunch for my twin daughters for a pre-commissioning ceremony to the US Army-- it was awesome!!!!

EXCELLENT PARTY
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/3/06
We had a rehersal dinner for 37 people & the food and service were excellent. The house is beautiful and the table settings were of first quality. We were able to bring in our own beverages and they were served by the O'Neill house. The only problem I see is the house is difficult to find since there is no sign and parking is across the street. I would recommend the O' Neill house for most any special occasion.

We loved this place
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/9/06
We were invited to a late holiday party at the O'Neill House Saturday, January 7, 2006. We were graciously invited in to this beautiful home and had the most wonderful time ever. The owner was extremely gracious and the ladies who help her were extremely accomodating. We enjoyed the tour of the entire home and were blown away by the quality and stateliness of this wonderful mansion. I was only a guest in this beautiful home and hope I have an occasion to return there one day.

We had a great experience.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/20/05
Beautiful house. Excellent service. Excellent breakfast. We stayed in 2 different rooms -- both of them comfortable and well appointed. The house is a delight. Like stepping back in time.

Wedding reception at the O'Neill House
By Denise, 9/23/05
I admit the O'Neill House is a beautiful location for a formal event. We held our wedding reception there recently. However, I do warn everyone who goes there, that the management is EXTREMELY DIFFICULT to work with. You are made to feel as if you are an intruder in their home--you must play by the owner's rules and you are often made to feel as if you are being priviledged to be let into the house. It is not customer-service- oriented at all. For example, although we ordered based on the number of people we were having for our reception, the owner did not have enough food for everyone. My wedding party did not even get to try half of the food that we ordered because she served all the other guests before the wedding party arrived from taking photos. She claimed we were taking too long that, she just couldn't wait to serve the guests, even though there were appetizers readily available. She also did not have enough beer there for everyone and when we ran out, she made it seem like it was our fault and made no attempt to get more. When we sent a friend out to get some so we were not thoroughly embarrassed by not having enough for our guest, she then got irate that we worked without her even though she did not make any attempt to help us in the first place. She even scolded my guests at times, telling them what they could and could not do in her house. Again, while it is a beautiful house, I do forwarn anyone thinking of hosting an event there, that the owner is very difficult to work with. You are made to feel as if you are an intruder in the house and a burden to her and her busy schedule--rather than a paying guest. She is difficult to get ahold of and she often is very hesitant to sit down and meet with you. Good luck to all who try.
