They took $175.00 of my hard earned money!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/17/09
We could not wait to go back to our "special place". Very expensive and not worth it! The bread that was supposedly "in the oven" came out cold. Ceasar salad had blocks of bread on it instead of croutons? They should have called it lemon and dijon with romaine. No parmasean cheese in a ceasar salad?? Then came the famous surf and turf. No bernaise sauce available for my filet mignon. The australian lobster tail was partly raw served with olive oil instead of butter??? All that for a $50 entree??? Horrible!! We could not wait to leave and go to Hoffmans for some ice cream to make us feel better! It is a shame how something that was such an incredible experience to dine at has fallen so far down the drain. You need to spend money on a chef if you would like to build a clientele and a reputation. Stop trying to save a buck!!

OH MY GOD, YOU DONT WANT TO STAY HERE!!!
By Kevin, 07/12/09
We stayed here to attend a wedding. There were about 10 other couples, and all I can say is they should be ashamed of themselves! Reservations were all screwed up, and when the reception was over, we went back to the hotel and sat on the deck with the other couples, and were very rudely told we could not be there. I couldn't believe it. The woman (who claimed to be the owner) even threatened to call the cops....on her own guests!!!! It was UNBELIEVABLE! And all of this for $300 a night! You've got to be joking! If you stay here, you are totally NUTS! (sorry to write this, but I still can't believe the balls the people at this place have...seriously.)

We will return.
By MikeM, 08/20/08
The hotel is what we expected -- we will return. If you are expecting an atlantic city polished marble floor experience, this is not the place for you. We've been to most of the hotels along the Northeastern NJ coastline and we rated this as one of the better places we've stayed at. Our other options were $120/night in nearby Point Pleasant which we've done before and found it to be too busy. For a 120 year old victorian (the Grenville), it's just what we expected, some charming rough edges but with great food. It set the mood for a more relaxing time and with a quiet beach one block away. Thank you.

Very Disappointing
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/03/08
Such a shame...could be a very nice place. Air conditioning was on a pallet of wood, not enough blankets, room was filthy, and an exploded soda in the refrigerator.

Open syringe found behind the couch!
By jerseygirl505, 07/27/08
I stayed at the Grenville, this past weekend, as part of a wedding party. My room was small and dirty and not worth the price. The website description states that each room has individual heating and air conditioning. The air conditioner was free-standing on a makeshift wood stand and made so much noise that I had to turn up the volume on the TV in order to hear anything. The bathroom was disgusting and the plumbing barely worked. The quality of my room was not my biggest concern, though. The bride stayed in the suite next to my room. While looking for an outlet, the bride found an open syringe filled with liquid behind the couch. A questionable pill was also found under a desk in the room. Upon further inspection, we found two vials of fentanyl (an opiod analgesic that has become popular in the news due to frequent over-doses). The manager was immediately called and he had the nerve to say he was busy!!! Needless to say, the police were called and an officer gathered the evidence. The bride was told that she could have a different room but that they were all much smaller so she was better off staying where she was. No apologies…nothing! This hotel seems like it had charm at one point but the management has declined severely. I would never recommend this hotel to anyone.

Never Again
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/08/07
We had stayed at the Grenville 16 years ago and found the hotel to be quaint but very nice. Therefore, we returned and were so disappointed. Our room had not been painted or refurbished for a long, long time. Paint was pealing off the wall, the ?air conditioner was loud and inefficient, the bed spindles were broken, the blind would not stay down and had a wire attached to hook it to the window pull handle, furnishings were old and totally "unmatched", the "closet" was a broken rack that woobled when touched. WE have never stayed in such an unsatisfactory hotel. We did not eat there.

Big disappointment
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/16/07
I called to reserve a room for 3 for July 4th and 5th – 2 adults and 1 child. I was told I could have a level 4 room which would have a queen bed and a pullout sofa for $219 per night. We arrived at the hotel on Wednesday evening and were assigned to a room on the 4th floor. After transporting our luggage to the room, we discover that the room only sleeps 2. Please note that all 3 of us were at the desk to check in. I go back to the desk and get a room that sleeps 3 on the 2nd floor and have to move our luggage there. In order to use the pullout sofa, it must be moved to a different spot in the room. My son climbs into the bed and says that the sheets are full of sand. Given that we did not go in sand the whole day, I knew the sand was not from his feet! Obviously the sheets had not been changed. The mattress on the pullout was also terrible. When using the bathroom that evening – it is also clear that the hand towels had been used by a prior guest and there is used soap in the soap dish. Unfortunately for us, my son was sick all night (he ended up in the hospital!) and we needed to go home and could not stay for the 2 night minimum. I asked the manager on duty if she could accommodate either a refund or a credit for another night but was told no way we have a 2 night policy and that is it. I wrote a letter to the owners about my experience but as of this note hava received no response!

Terrible service!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/09/07
I have been going to The Grenville for the past approx. 20 years and the service has absolutely plummeted. Most recently took my mother for a Valentines Day lunch which was a bad experience as the waitstaff was slow and unattentive. The dining room was less than half full and the servers were lounging in the back of the dining neglecting the guests. I wrote a letter to management and, surprise, surprise, recieved no response. Have not returned- plenty of other wonderful restaurants around.

We will probably not return
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/01/07
While the food selections, presentation and taste was excellent we were very displeased with the level of service in the resturant. We had reservations for New Years Eve at 8PM and were seated almost immediately upon arrival. Our waitress did not take our initial order until much later and we waited over twenty min. for the bottle of wine to arrive at the table. The remainder of the meal was served in an unacceptable manner relative to the price we were paying for this dinner. Note;at one point we had another waitress serving our food and the original waitress only appeared to deliver and pick up the check/tip. Without going into every detail of the sub-par service we decided that we would not recommend the resturant or return.

STAY AWAY!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/14/06
Since the change of owners in the past couple years, the impecable reputation has not been upheld. It is no longer and bed and breakfast nor do they serve the infamous brunch so well loved and known. Expensive, poor quality and the most unfriendly, unaccomodating customer service ever experienced. BEWARE - do not go by past reputation alone!
