We just got back from a one night quick weekend getaway and couldn't have had a better time! We are only so sorry we didn't plan to stay longer and we definitely plan to go back for more time next time. It was a magical winter wonderland and a perfect place for my two children's first snow experience. The cabins are just perfect. A bit snug, but cozy really....and so cute and comfy. The kids loved the loft upstairs. We brought a portable ipod system and had music on in the cabin, snow falling outside and the kids making snow men right outside our front door. It really felt like we were at home in the woods. No full kitchen, but with the bbq and fridge, we made a great fish dinner and spent a lovely evening with wine and snow. The gas fireplace warns the cabin so well and helps to dry the wet clothes from outside. We bought our dog and found the property VERY dog friendly and she had a fantastic time as well. It is very private and that makes it feel even more like home, though we could see kids from other cabins playing outside of their places....just made it feel even nicer. The owners really do give you your space, while at the same time were very helpful. They were up plowing the roads early in the morning and when they noticed my nephew outside, they offered us snow shoes to use and we borrowed sleds for the kids as well. Everyone from the dog to the kids to the adults had a great time. Will definitely return for a longer stay! Thanks so much for a great snow holiday.
This is the perfect place for anything from an intimate getaway for 2 to a destination to enjoy the outdoors with the kids. You can't go wrong with this place.
Easy to get to and still out of the way. Stunning views. Cozy, efficient, tasteful cabins and beautifully situated well designed tent cabins, all respectfully situated while enhancing the natural beauty of the location! Outdoor lovers will be impressed and quite pleased. (Check out the yurt!)
Activities abound summer and winter, but you'll be tempted to linger all day in front of the fire! We'll definitely be going back!
This place was fabulous! The moment we arrived we knew we made the perfect choice for our 1 year old and 4 year old's first snow trip. We had planned to stay one night and go to Soda Springs or Kingvale for the day to sled and we ended up staying 3 nights and not leaving Shinneyboo. The owners were wonderful and had lots of useful tidbits for fun things to do. They had sleds, snowshoes, tobaggons, everything you could ever need for a snow adventure. There are beautiful trails on the property, great hills for sledding and even a warming yurt for a relaxing break after a snow hike. The location is also close to many ski resorts and the best part is we missed most of the traffic because it's before you hit the Summit. It's pet friendly too. We definitely will be coming here for many years to come!
My family and I stayed in cabin #7 the 3rd thru 5th of January 2007 and we had a blast. We are not really into winter sports and were just looking for a place where we could take our three year old son to play in the snow. I got to tell you I was so happy when we arrived at Shinneyboo, because I knew I had made a great choice. There was plenty of snow on the ground to play and go sledding in and we were expecting snow showers all day the next day. The cabin was small but very cozy. It is more of a studio with an upstairs loft. My son loved the loft. (The owners will provide a baby safety gate upon request.) There was a twin and a double bed up stairs in the loft and a queen bed downstairs. There was a microwave, coffee maker, refrigerator, jetted tub, and gas fireplace in the cabin and a gas barbecue out on the back patio. (No need for propane, the barbecue runs off the cabins gas line.) There was also a campfire ring a few steps from our back patio. Every morning by turning on our front porch light signaled the owners to bring us our complimentary breakfast in a basket, which was filled with a variety of home baked goodies. The owners were very nice and really respected our privacy. The only time we saw them was when they brought us our breakfast basket. However, they live on site so when we needed something we just knocked on their door. We were also free to roam the 160 acres of beautiful land that the resort sits on. We would walk all over searching for great sledding hills and just taking in the scenery. We will be making this an annual getaway.
