Needs updating, better service, but generally nice
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/20/11
Great location. A little long in the tooth. Lots of peeling plaster etc. Good breakfasts. Zombie staff! Much better places to stay in Cape May

Great place to spend a relaxing vacation
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/9/10
I love coming to the Dormer House and have been for many years. The atmosphere is so relaxing, it's the perfect place to sit back and enjoy Cape May. Everyone is always so nice and accommodating! It was so much fun, I would definitely recommend to others.

Charming place to be
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/5/09
The Dormer House is very charming my Wife and I had a lovely time there. The Inn Keeper's were very kind they talked with us at tea time which was very nice. Thank You for taking the time to talk with us. That was a very nice touch to our stay. The ladies who served Breakfast and cleaned the room were very friendly. The one and only complaint and I do not even wanna say it is a complaint is that one of the ladies who served us breakfast my Wife was kinda thrown back from her tattoo's all over her leg's. She was nice but not the type of person I thought would be working at such a charming B&B.Overall our visit at the Dormer House was very nice. Thank You Dormer House and Dennis and Lucille

Wonderful
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/4/09
The Dormer House is a charming place to stay. I would recommend a stop there to any and all who enjoy charm, atmosphere and pleasant company. Dennis and Lucille are the owners and welcomed us and had us feeling at ease from the start. The staff did all they could to make my wife and I happy. Charming and clean rooms. Afternoon snacks were out of this world! This was our first time there and we WILL be back, again and again.

LOVED IT!!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/4/09
The Dormer House and staff were absolutely wonderful! I can't wait to come back in the fall. My husband and I enjoyed the entire vacation because of our stay there. The breakfast was very filling and enjoyable. Each staff person went out of their way to accommodate our needs and desires, from extra towels to extra servings of breakfast and snacks. Which reminds me of how scrumptious the tea time snacks were/are. Lucille is an excellent baker and made time for us each day just to chat. Dennis came to talk to us every breakfast. this all made our stay so pleasurable! It is a beautiful house and each room seemed to have it's oun theme. I can't wait to return! The two women who cleaned the rooms and served the food were very helpful with ideas for things to do and made time just to answer any questions we had no matter how busy they seemed to be. The house is so big and roomy that I just didn't want to come home. One of the great features of the house was the "breakfast porch". Seating was at our leisure and many choice's to sit at. It was a real treat. We were also able to chat with other guests at this time and share stories. What a real delight this whole experience was for us.

Not What We Expected!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/4/09
My husband and I stayed for 4 nights, 3 days at The Dormer House. Lucille, the Inn Keeper, greeted us and was very friendly. She upgraded us from a basic room located on the 2nd floor to the Dormer Suite, on the third floor. Lucille told us it might as well get used since it was just sitting. I thought that was a wonderful gesture and Lucille seemed like a very warm and friendly woman. I will tell you that that particular moment was the best part of our stay at the Dormer House (and I will say the onsite parking is a blessing). After our initial greeting and quick talk with Lucille, we never saw her again. We did get to meet Dennis (Lucille's husband) for about five minutes at breakfast, where we found him nice and down to earth, but he did not hang around to chat with anyone and hurried back into the house. The staff was not very friendly either (2 women who seemed to not enjoy their jobs). The house itself is very warm (no A/C, only in the bedrooms), and the indoor porch where breakfast is served, has only two screened in doors on either end (no screens on the porch windows) which made it unbearably hot, one morning to enjoy our breakfast. Most B&B's we have stayed at in Cape May also offer free water and nightly coffee you can fix yourself a wonderful plus. At the Dormer, she offered no water, and the nightly offering of "fix it yourself" coffee was sanka and powdered milk. Not at all what I expected from such a larger B&B. If I had to rate our room, I'd say it was a 3, since there were not many antiques in it and the noise from the window air conditioner was very loud. Thank goodness the queen sized bed was a pillow top and in good condition. The weather was nice during our stay, in the low 80's, so I can't imagine how hot it would be up on the third floor (where the Dormer Suite is located) during the dog days of August. My husband and I have been visiting Cape May for past 15 years, and were not impressed overall with the Dormer House, sorry to say. We will not be booking there again. PS: If you do plan to stay here, please be advised that there is one small refrigerator on the second floor that is available for use by the guests. My huband and I did not realize that at first, and thought it was stocked for the guests to take a water (like the other B&B's we have stayed at). We did take two waters with us up to our room, to find the next day a note in the frig stating the "bottled waters were not to be taken and that we needed to replace what we took"!!! WOW!!! A little embarrassing, and we hope that the person that wrote that note didn't die of thirst! Sorry for taking your water whoever you are!

Fantastic Place to Stay!
By Patricia, 10/15/08
My husband and I decided to go to Cape May for our one-year wedding anniversary and we stayed at the Dormer House in the Dormer Suite for four nights and five days. We absolutely loved the separate breakfast tables, delicious and healthy breakfast served, the warm welcomes from the innkeepers/staff, 24/7 coffee/tea, afternoon treats, the outside porch, and the entire atmosphere! The place has a vintage feel so don't expect everything to be brand new. Our room was very modern and peaceful. At night, we actually could hear the ocean waves from a far, so tranquil! We highly recommend staying at the Dormer House for those looking to visit Cape May. Very REASONABLE rates for A+ service! We are planning on going back and staying in a different room for the New Year.
