From my bunker in Mosul, Iraq
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/29/05
Hello to everyone at Jerico Inn,
Greetings from Mosul, Iraq. I am sitting in my sandbagged room writing this note to tell you all that I wish my wife and I could come to Jerico for a long rest--some quiet space.
I am serving a one year tour in Mosul as the USAID Representative/Norther areas. I am in the US Foreign Service.
We visited you all earlier in the August (8 days). That vacation was our fifth or sixth time to Jerico since 1999. Our very faviorite cabin is the one that is located behind the main lodge--next to the creek.
Judy and I have always enjoyed Jerico and the town of Marilington. We like to go over to Greenbank to visit the NARO Radio Telescope and to tour the countryside. The way that you all have set up the cabins makes for a very fine and quiet vacation--great for reading and rest from the general hubbub of life in the city world these days. A quiet environment that is devoid of noise is of very high importance to us.
As soon as possible we will visit again--maybe when I come home for some leave in February.
Iraq is a tough place to work--the green hills of West Virginia will be a treat after the dust and heat here.
So long for now--another mortar round has just landed on our base and the Stryker tanks are rumbling along outside--going out on night maneuvers. Ron Senykoff Sr.
