I'll go back
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/19/08
This motel was great for me. I attened a wedding and checked in with no problem. The manager was very nice and the rooms were your typicle motel rooms. Clean but the place could use new towel. It is well worth the price and when I go visit my freinds I will stay at the Diccovery Inn. The flowers arround the motel are very nice and you can park right in front of your room.

Nice place
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/15/08
Location was good for me. I was attending a conference at Asilomar. On a good traffice day I could get there in 10 minutes. The room was very clean. One of the most comfortable beds I have slept in. There were some really nice plants in the few spaces available around the parking lot. I was there for 6 days and had room 20 on the end, which was really quiet. I will stay there again! The breakfast was just a Danish and coffee, but it helped.

A pleasant place to stay on the cheap!!
By snicklefritz, 05/19/08
I was pleasantly surprised by the Discovery Inn! My husband and I were looking for an inexpensive place to stay close to Laguna Seca Raceway. The reviews were not spectacular and I jokingly told friends that we were staying at a flea bag motel to cut costs. I sincerely apologize! The manager could not have been nicer! He charged us $148.00 TOTAL for a Friday and Saturday night (Laguna Seca Race weekend, too)! My only complaint was that I was given a Queen sized bed instead of a King sized- we survived. I brought a room fan as I know that most Monterey motels have no A/C. This room had a nice A/C that blew ice cold, a nice sized fridge, a phone (I didn't check for internet access), a tub/shower (It even felt like soft water, but I MUST be wrong), a hairdryer, the bathroom vanity with lots of counter space. The carpets and vinyl flooring looked new, the bed was clean, the bedding looked almost new, the bathroom and floors looked very clean, the towels were a bit thin, the mattress was as comfortable as any hotel mattress, and the TV had an endless number of channels and a remote with a sleep timer (my favorite!). I think the only thing missing was a clock radio which was no big deal to me. The other guests looked to be decent looking people mostly middle aged from what I saw. It is a small place maybe 20 rooms or less and only one story (no thundering hooves above at night!). The window was even double paned and modern and secure. He supplied morning coffee and a box of donuts if you were into that sort of thing. Otherwise right next door was a BAD ASS COFFEE shop- like a Starbucks. Also tucked back a little further ito that shopping center was THE BREAKFAST CLUB restaurant. Just down a block or two was a big Safeway shopping center. It was a great location and a great place to stay for what we were there for. I would DEFINITELY stay there again! Also, there was no pool, but in Monterey, who cares unless you have little kids to thrill.

Pick another hotel
By EmilyC, 07/10/07
Room size was okay, but the bed was shot. My husband went to bed first and when I got in, I soon learned it had the "valley" effect going on in the bed's center. No mattress pad was used - thin on sheets. Only one key was issued. Stains on chair seats. Very basic room, seemed overpriced for what we got.

Horrible!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/30/07
I husband and I went here last year to celebrate our anniversary. We settled for this hotel since we could not get anything closer to Cannery Row. When we initially walked into the room, it smelled REPULSIVE! The room was disgusting and dirty. The walls were brown, the bedding was torn and dirty. The pictures that were hung on the wall were off center, as well as the lamp shade. There were cigarette burn holes in the furniture, and a broken down refridgerator in the bathroom area. It smelled like an ashtray. We were even afraid to sit on the beds. We are not that picky of people, and are usually able to adapt to any situation. This was just too much. We tried to stick it out, but the smell was too over powering. We walked across the street to Walgreens and bought some air freshener, which didn't even make a difference. After a couple of hours, we decided to leave. When explaining to the owners that we wanted our money back, they proceeded to be rude and unhelpful, and even started yelling at us. My husband offered them $40 for the two hours we were there, so we can get our money back. (The owner took him up on the offer!) I was appalled by their rude behavior. Is it legal to rent out such a disgusting hotel room? I wouldn't recomend this hotel to anyone. What a horrible, disgusting experience. I've never been treated so rude.
