Elegant and relaxing
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/02/08
The decor and food are outstanding, the bed and linens sublime. Not in a great area of Asheville but close to what we wanted to do. We did not even need supper after the filling afternoon tea! Although it is expensive, it is worth it!

2 night minimum
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/16/07
Tried to book a monday night at this B&B and was told I was required a 2 night minimum. Their website states a 2 night is only required for weekend stays. I informed them of what their webstie says and they acknowledge it and still required a 2 night stay. Not very helpful, I would not recommend them to anyone.

cute but snobby
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/28/07
The building is ADORABLE, everything you would expect from the outside of a small B&B. So when my mother came to visit for a week I couldn't wait to book her a room there but they were SO rude to me on the phone! I was so turned off I booked mom for a week at the Wright Inn just down the street where they couldn't have been nicer or more amenable. Too bad the Black Walnut lost my business!

99 1/2 % Doesn't do it!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/04/07
My wife and I chose Black Walnut because of the history and what seemed would be a great place to explore Asheville for our 20th wedding anniversary. The location was nice and the room was nice, however though all the visit was really nice, the end caused our entire visit to be forever scarred. They had stated that our credit card would be charged upon arrival, however it wasn't though the same person that took our credit info checked us in. We stayed two nights and on the morning we departed they charged us for the room. Everything seemed fine until we got home and few days later found a double charge on our account (over 400.00). This threw our bank account into a spin with putting a stop payment on bills until we were able to correct this obvious error. Peter (owner) had checked us out and billed us. A simple mistake right? My wife called Lorie (Owner) and she denied any overbilling and until she called her bank would not even concede as to any inpropriety. In the mean time our car payment is late (no fault to our own). Lorie was very short on the phone and said it will be fixed within the hour when in fact it took almost three days to take care of. All the while our funds were on hold until it re-posted as an error to our account. A superficial apology came still claiming no fault and certainly no refunds of any sort for inconvienience. Even after writing two letters stating that it is unconscionable to not do something seeing it was their error, we still received nothing. It caused our credit to be damaged for a late payment and held up monies that were our own. It sorely tarnished the stay that otherwise would have been quite memorable. These owners forgot the key to having a business- Take care of your guests completely! 99 1/2 % doen't cut it and their treatment over a simple mistake showed their charactor and their obvious facade of customer service. I do not recommend staying because of that. The building is beautiful but that treatment over a simple issue that could have easily been resolved would cause me to question spending my money there or the handling of my bank info. Shame on you!

If you go to Asheville, this is truly the best place to stay!
By katerina, 02/12/07
Everything was so wonderful. From the very helpful hosts; to the gourmet breakfasts; to the better than any hotel, cozy rooms. We thought the rooms looked nice in the pictures, but they look even more spectacular in person. This is a very romantic place to go in Asheville. -Kate and Adam

The Best.
By Orb, 01/18/07
Absolutely the best B&B. Peter and Laurie will make you the best breakfast you've ever had, and even share a tale or two with you in the greeting room at the afternoon (complimentary) wine tasting. I would (and have) recommed(ed) this place to anyone wishing to visit Asheville. Thanks so much to you both! Regards, Rob & Carrie (Living 3 blocks from your daughter in Burnsville, MN, as you told us when we sipped wine that fine Fall day!)

What a great weekend!!
By Rob M, 01/02/07
My husband and I stayed at the Black Walnut Bed and Breakfast in mid November 2006 and absolutely had a wonderful time!! It was relaxing and the food and accommodations were exceptional! The owners were very inviting and friendly making our first stay ever at a bed and breakfast a delightful experience! We loved it so much that we gave my mother a trip for Christmas! We will definitely go back and have recommended it to many of our friends!!

Difficult to get them to follow their cancellation policy.
By Ken, 11/14/06
Never made it to The Black Walnut due to illness. Cancelled 56 hrs prior to check-in time and the owner stated they would be charging our Visa 100%($400) of our reservation fee. My husband tried to reason with the owner to no avail. A second unpleasant phone call also got us no where. We then emailed them, reiterated their printed cancellation policy to them( we should have been charged 50% of our entire reservation fee, not 100%), mentioned we would include our experience with them in our reviews and stated we would dispute their 100% charge with Visa. They responded by finally acknowledging their policy and indicating they would bill us 50%.They also suggested attorney action if we were to review them. Well, here is my honest review & I would honestly avoid the Black Walnut. Too many other B&B's in Asheville to risk this kind of hassle.

We loved it!

The Black Walnut was full of class and so relaxing at the same time. The owners are fabulous and the food is out of this world. We really recommend the Black Walnut room - it was gorgeous!
