A visit with the Chief Duck
Ducktown is a small community, close to the Ocoee river and the various rafting outfitters. We went in the low season, after the leaves had turned, and after the river had been turned off for the season. Ducktown is a quiet, sleepy town this time of year, catering mostly to those seeking to get away for the weekend, or visiting the antique shops in the region. The Company House is run by Mike and Margie. Mike is a renaissance man in the truest sense, paino player extraordinaire, handiman, pilot, and chief bottle washer. Margie is the business mind and the breakfast wizard, who, with serious arm twisting, will share her recipes, guarded by an oath of secrecy. Their home is your home while you are there. Relax in the parlour, watch the fish in the Koi pond, including Chief Duck, the biggest Koi I have ever seen. Write in the diaries provided in each room, and read up on past visitors. But above all, feel at home.
