None of what you go to a B&B for and watch out for the included gratuity
My friend and I decided to stay at a B&B while we were visiting The Oaks spa. However, the rooms were not as expected. The ad did say "shower in tub" but made no mention that it was a hand-held shower and had no curtain so one would have to sit in the bathtub to shower.
Breakfast was scheduled after we would be leaving for the spa each day, but even though it was offered on the first night, no accommodation was made for anything to be available like a piece of fruit or a roll.
The biggest frustration was when I wanted to get a can of soda that the owner had indicated I could keep in the refrigerator. When I came in the second night, I was greeted by a big sign on the door to the kitchen that said PERSONAL PROPERTY - DO NOT ENTER. The sign was not posted there before and it felt like a personal message to me to "Keep Out".
I like to stay at B&Bs because there is usually someone who encourages people to congregate, talks about the history of the place and is usually very accommodating about things like breakfast and having a place to put snacks. In many ways I felt like an intruder into someone's upstairs apartment. Most of our comings and goings went completely without notice or interaction.
I was willing to pay more for the experience I have come to expect from B&Bs but this inn did not seem to offer those services. It is an historical home, but didn't feel like a B&B.
We complained and checked out early. However, when I checked the final bill I discovered we had been charged a 15%gratuity! I asked for a refund but received no response.
