Former employee

As someone who used to work at the Coleman House I have experienced first had the rudeness and curtness that the reviews say about the owner. That is all VERY true; however I must say that the food its self is very good. It does tend to stay pretty crowded because it is a popular place for luch for many of the locals. I must also comment on the rooms, they are very nice but the location is right next to a rough part of town so it tends to stay pretty loud and if someone were to stay there I would reccomend that you lock you car or truck up extra tight. As far as the actual beauty and landscape of the house, it's breathtaking, especially during the spring and summer months as far as outside. And during the winter it is loaded with Christmas trees and decorations full of beauty that you wouldn't believe!! Even if I wouldn't reccommend staying there I would reccommend a visit because it is georgous if you can overlook the people there.

Bad Customer Service but GOOD food.
By Nora, 6/7/09
This was my first visit to Coleman House. My parents had visited it before several times during 2008 and raved about the food. We went to Sunday lunch and I found it to be crowded; which I didn't mind so much but the staff was very unfriendly and lacked that Southern charm that I've experienced at restaurants such as McDonalds and KFC etc. I also found it strange that your name went on a list (I thought was 1st come 1st serve) but that turned out not to be the case here. There was families and people that came in after us but they were seated before us. Then I heard one of the rude and unfriendly ladies working at the front say to a gentleman that just walked in; your table is ready. I looked and she said "he's a regular". I wasn't impressed with the customer service at all; however, the food was delicious. I'm going back to that area in July and I'm thinking the food isn't worth terrible customer service that my family and I received.

We will never go back!!!!
By Vanilla, 5/28/09
When we pulled up to the house it was very nice looking from the outside and we expected to have a lovely stay, until we walked inside. There was junk everywhere. We even bumped into to stuff before we were even inside good. The owner was very rude and didn't seem to want our business at all. When I asked other people around town about it they said she was just a very rude unprofessional person. We never got a smile or a thank you. We were never asked if we enjoyed the stay. We got less service than if we had went to a rent by the hour hotel. The owner acted like she didn't care whether we were there or not. She was only concerned with us locking the doors. She never said one nice word to us. The only time we saw her is when she checked us in and she even turned that job off to one of her employees. The employees that work there were probably the best part of the stay. I cannot think of one who was not polite and hospitable. But even though the employees had not forgotten their southern hospitality and maners, it still didn't speak much for the owner. The service was bad, but the noise was worse. The Inn is located right on a major highway US1, which runs right through the middle of town. The traffic passing by all night was definately not peaceful unless you are from New York and are used to horns and loud music all night. During the day wasn't much better, forget reading upstairs or in the gardens because if the noise from the highway doesn't disturb you the noise from the resturaunt downstairs will. I would not recommend anyone to stay here. I wouldn't have paid 25 dollars for the experience let alone 85 which is the nightly rate for two.

Fabulous Food
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/14/08
Coleman House is a home-cooking buffet restaurant downstairs and a wonderful one it is. It is also a B&B and a B&B is a B&B. Don't go expecting the Ritz Carlton while paying for a B&B and you won't be disappointed. Nice people! Absolutely terrific food!

Not what we thought
This was not what we thought it would be and we did give it a second chance. The rooms were only clean on the service (an item rolled under the bed and when I lifted the dust ruffle to retrieve it I found lots of dust bunnies). There was an overall smell of past cooked food lingering in the entry and hall. The owner just did not seem welcoming at all on either visit. She was very curt and was more worried about whether we would lock the door when we returned from dinner then whether we could find a place for dinner in a town with which we weren't familiar. In fact her chill manner was the main reason we now choose to frequent another B&B - which has been nothing but wonderful!
