Sheffield House Bed & Breakfast, Kailua

This was my first solo "mommy vacation" after 4 years to Hawaii and I was very excited about the whole plan, but got some un-expected surprises: first the BUS does NOT take you from the airport to Kailua if you have a carry on bag, and there is NO SHUTTLE SERVICE unless you arranged for one before your trip. CABS are $60 (which I ended up paying for) Second: How unfriendly and cold my arrival was by the owner of the BB! She had a problem with me leaving my carry on bag locked unless I paid $60 (half a day) because I was 3 hours early to check in, so I had to hide them in some bushes, and had to take my computer in my backpack to go for a walk in town, which is very close. After this I never heard from them, but when I had a problem connecting to the internet where let's say she was strictly handy. The room I was in very pretty but noisy at night-time, the bb is located on a pretty busy road. Other than that I'll say I will not use this BB again, sorry but hospitality is a very important asset which they totally lack. Oh and yes, I don't care about cockroaches or bugs but there were a lot of them!

Try Sheffield House. You sleep to the soft patter of rain, because it only rains at night, and awaken to the cooing of the doves. Then you take a jog or a meditative walk on the beach that is only about two blocks away, while you watch the sun wipe the salt water off its face. All depending on your mood for the day. The Bus is just a short walk away which will take you to all the sites and sounds of Paradise! Try it, you'll like it. We Did!! We want to hurry back Visitors from Georgia

For those who've never been to Oahu or who've only ever stayed in the stale, touristy picture postcard that is modern day Waikiki, a stay at the Sheffield House affords the experience of living as a local in paradise. Situated on my favorite side of the island, the Sheffield House is nestled in a lush, quiet nook off the main road. The friendly family leaves you in peace and the feeling is instantly more like you're old neighbors than guests. Walk to the beach or drive your rental car. Gas, groceries, shops, and dining is a short drive up the road into the main section of Kailua town. The idyllic real estate of Lanikai, oft voted the most beautiful beach in all of Hawaii, beckons and it but a five minute drive away. Residential Hawaii, at its best. This is the experience you've been dreaming of. Leave Waikiki for the unadventurous and ignorant hordes while you enjoy the pleasures and lifestyle of the locals. Aloha!

the sheffield house is so much like my hawaii dream home, i'm tempted to put in an "unresistible" offer for it. but, alas, it's only a temporary place to relax between stressful occasions. the sheffields are the most pleasant folks who are attentive, but allow you to "chill out" at your own pace. more people who go elsewhere are missing out on "paradise, almost lost" in kailua, oahu, hawaii.

Me and my wife stayed 2 nights there. We were supposed to stay longer but left early. The place is pretty old, out of date, a bit dirty, lots of bugs. My wife stepped nearly stepped on a 3 inch cockroach in our room(we had no food in the house to attract them). There were little lizards that crawled all over the walls, ants in the kitchen. They stated a "Free Contiental Breakfeast" on the first day. We found a loaf of bread and some fruit on the table when we got to our room... for $105 a night I think they could do better than this. It's basically someones house divided into two units and they should really put some money back into the place because they have a great location but I would suggest staying somewhere else......

Completely enjoyed are stay at the Sheffield House. Very close to the best beach on Oahu! We just loved the Green Market! An excellent place to unplug from the daily grind. We hardly saw the Sheffields, which makes them excellent Host's! If you don't want to be alone, try a different place! Would definitely stay there again. A+++
