Strange Concept of Customer Service
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/25/07
I booked a bed here at 5PM after asking if they offered Internet Access. They receptionist said, "Oh sure, just go into the TV room for wireless." I should have noticed something was up by her bad attitude and terrible customer service.
I went down the street to Volcano Joe's for food, and to do Homework using their free wireless. Came back to the hostel to submit, and download some more assignments.
I come to find out that the hostel doesn't offer their own Internet service. What the receptionist meant is that people can get on the Internet by stealing from the neighbor. But, my laptop won't connect to the neighbors due to low signal strength.
They actually have a password protected wireless router at the hostel, that one of the workers was using. But they won't give me the password. Why?
The worker says that it's the owner's and she's not allowed to let people use it. When I speak to the owner, she says she will ask the worker if she will give me her password.
She comes back and says I can't use it, "Because it's the worker's kokinaukanuku." or whatever the Hawaiian word is for your special sacred thing that you can't give out. "It's her private password." And that I can't have it because of "viruses."
Yeah right, the WEP password is her kokiniaknu? Give me a break. None of the workers had the slightest concept that I had any reason to be upset. The owner told me that, "I'm sorry our worker told you we had internet, but that's not my fault." What kind of customer service is this? Yeah it is your fault, it's your business. And your agent made a contract with me that I would get a room, a shower, and Internet for a specific price. Have some sense of responsibility, honor, customer service, adherence to contract law. Give me the password, or offer me a free night. Something. Next thing they're gonna tell me I have to sneak into the neighbors house to use the shower.
They told me I could leave and get my money back. At 11PM at night it's not an option. I had three workers chastising me like it was my fault and that I could easily go to Volcano Joe's to get Internet.
So, here I am sitting on the ground, in the dark, at VJ's using their Internet.
Seaview Hostel in Honolulu screwed me! Don't let them screw you too. And don't take their bad attitude. Go to Ho Condo or any other hostel in Wikiki. Way more fun things to do there too.
