Second stay
By ,
We said we would return and we did return! Instead of going last Dec., we went from Jan 24-Feb 9, 2010. Stayed 3 suites down from where we were last Jul which was what we wanted. We got a Superior City View Junior Suite. Loved every minute of our stay (16 days). We have absolutely no negative comments about the hotel or the services. The hotel is so convenient. The only problem was that on Feb 1, the marina parking lots were turned over the private mgt and the rates went from $6/day to $1/hr, which is ridiculous. Few people can afford this. We made other arrangements for much, much less. All parking garages/lots in Honolulu discourage tourists from renting cars. I am in the process of planning my next trip, which will be w/in the next few months. If I go to Oahu, I will stay here. We really used the kitchen this time. Only ate out twice. She we are eligible to shop at the Pearl Harbor Commissary, we saved a bunch. Again, mahalo to the entire staff of the hotel and to Shell Hospitality.

We can't wait to get back.
By ,
We had a junior lanai suite on the 16th w/city/mtn view. Stayed 8 day in July 2009. Great housekeeping. the suite was everything you would want except for an ocean view. Staff was friendly and accommodating. The valet svc couldn't have been better. The a/c was out for 24 hrs but repaired the next morn. We were offered another room, but we declined. We were just fine. Planning to go back in Dec.

My only regret
By ,
I didn't stay longer! Very nice, clean, and comfortable accommodations. We had an ocean view - must have been upgraded somehow - but spectacular view. Staff was very nice. I would recommend this place to everyone. It was affordable and wonderful to stay in. I have nothing but good things to say about my stay here.

I'm glad I stayed here
By ,
After reading so many negative reviews about the Waikiki Marina Resort at the Ilikai, I almost didn't want to stay here. But we had such a great deal with Hotwire that I almost couldn't change my mind. And after my first day at the resort, I'm very happy that I stayed here while vacationing in Hawaii. The hotel room was big enough for 4 people and was clean, had a fully equipped kitchen, had a work out facility, and was close to the shopping center and beach. Everything in Waikiki is a walking distance and therefore you do not need a car and all the activities provide a shuttle. The hotel had excellent customer service and concierge, and my stay at the Ilikai with the Waikiki Marina Resort was wonderful. The staff was extremely friendly and always offered to help with our luggage, questions, and any recommendations we needed. Needless to say, the only thing the resort was lacking was a bath tub, ocean view, bathroom fan, room service, and daily clean up crew. But unless you like your baths, don't go to the beach for the beach view, are lazy and like your food served to you, and your are spoiled slob who needs someone to pick up after you every morning, then this hotel is not for you. The cleaning service came 5/7 days to take out the trash and change your towels, which is all we really needed because we clean up after ourselves. All in all, I'm glad I stayed here, and would recommend ANYONE to stay here. I especially recommend people traveling with 2-4 people to stay here who are trying to save money, people with kids, or people who like to have a home-like place while visiting Hawaii. If you are traveling with more than 2 people, do beware of the space, its about double the size of your average hotel room, but if you guys aren't too particular on privacy and personal space, then this place is fun to stay.

Great Experience, we would go back!
By ,
We stayed 7 days/nights at this hotel and had a fabulous time. Room was superior. Clean and recently remodeled. Housekeeping was timely and very friendly. All requested were honored, we had an ocean view. Elevators worked well then had a couple slow days, but you can always take the "service elevator" or "bathors elevator" and get to your room. Lovely lobby. Swimming pool was excellent and we played tennis on their court. Nice laundry area, bring quarters. Never ate at the restaurant on the top because you have Red Lobster and Outback across the street. We had dinner at the Red Lobster 3 times it was excellent. McDonalds, subway across the street. Alamona Mall with the food court just minutes down the street. Construction is going on next door and if you had a room on that side it would be bothersome. Hotel is very old looking on the outside but who cares, inside was very satisfactory - room had a full kitchen - take a stroll on the walk way toward the nightlife at Waikiki and enjoy the other restaurants/beaches/music/shows. You have a lovely beach and man made cove to enjoy just next door. Parking is expensive and you can park free in the back by the marina if you can find a place, very hard on weekends, so just budget in the $25 well worth it to valet park on the weekends. air condition is only on if you shut your lanai door, besure to turn on and leave on when you head out and when you come back its cool. Very comfortable bed. We would definitely come again, very fun experience!

10-day Stay
By ,
Our stay was for 10 days. The lobby and entry-way were beautiful and well maintained. The people were friendly and helpful. However, if you are staying on an exchange through RCI, you must deal with the staff and concierge on the 2nd floor. This staff was very helpful, and made our stay very pleasant. We had a studio with "ocean view" and full kitchen. While you could see the ocean and lagoon from the lanai, it was marred by the construction right next door. However, with the doors to the lania closed, noise was never an issue, and the nights were quiet. Three things that were not up to the standard of the rest of the resort: (1) elevator service was slow at best, and non-existent at worst. We had best luck using the Bather's Elevator just around the corner from the main elevator area. (2) parking was very expensive. Other RCI properties close by charged $7.00-$12.00 per night. The valet-only parking at the Ilikai was an exhorbitant $25.00 per night. You can park at the Hale Koa Hotel parking terrace for $12.00 per night, and it is only a block away, and they have about 2,000 stalls, so access is generally good. There is limited free 24 hr parking at the Marina, and some parking at the Red Lobster around the corner for $18.00 per night. (3) there is no free internet service. Ilikai charges $9.95 per day for connection. Most other hotels in the Waikiki area offer no charge connection.Other than those issues, we had an enjoyable stay, and would definitely return.

I have vacationed in honolulu for the last 7 years. I have paid more and got less. the Hilton is next door, same views, location, but check the difference in prices. worked for me!

Ok.. but not great
By ,
The hotel is a little outdated, but is in the process of being refurbished. Rooms are OK. We went through Shell Vacations and was told we would have an "Ocean view" however when we arrived, it was noted it was a "partial view" (which turned out to be a view of the construction next door). Service initially was not great, had to have room changed due to the lack of view and the previous occupants pornographic material being left in the room. It was in a good central location, near the Ala Moana mall and next door to the Hilton Hawaiian village (which is great!!!) No room service and only one of the on site restaurants were open. Lobby was great open air, but no activities to speak of.

Nice but not great
By ,
Positive: 1. It's close to the beach, shopping center, and near great restaurants. 2. The rooms were a decent size and clean. 3. Fair price. Negative: 1. The pool and other amenities were closed do to construction. 2. Lobby hours were not 24 hours nor is there assistance w/ lagauge. The beaches and environment made up for the negatives. Next time try the Hilton. IT IS GREAT.
