Pretty good vacation, would recommend to couples
The Good: We had a pretty good time here, even when the weather wasn't the best. The service was very good, all of the staff was very helpful, hardworking, grateful and respectful. This is the best attribute of the hotel. We had a nice relaxed feeling here, nothing rushed, nothing blaring, just relaxing. The hotel rooms were very nice, clean, fully stocked and replenished fridge with water, juice, soda and beer. good selection of TV channels. Room service was a nice bonus at any hour and included in the price. Beach was nice and so was the pool. This was a great place to lounge. Laying out by either one and get lots of drinks, swim, read or strike up a conversation with other vacationers was great. It was fun to converse with the other couples. Good mix of age groups (25-70) and it was nice to have no one under the age of 18. Lots of activities to choose from during the day. Fantastic breakfast buffet, anything you want, it is there. Good choice of restaurants and great service and presentation. We got a great couples massage. The spa was the best we have been to yet. We walked a mile north and south on the beach to compare the front to the others, and this resort was the best.
The Concerns: No free shuttle from the resort to Playa Del Carmen. You have to take a cab or pay for an excursion to get anywhere if you don't have a car. The room we received had two double beds. We were hoping for a king bed, as we are married. I would think they would have more king beds as this is an adult resort that has a lot of couples. We paid for a "deluxe" room, but got the double bed room at the end of the hall, no ocean view. I really don't like not getting something that is advertised and paid for. After 4 days they said they could move us to a different upgraded room, but we didn't want to pack up all of the stuff. We really didn't spend too much time in the room and being at the end of the hall worked out a little better as it was quiet, so we passed on it. we didn't spend too much time in there anyway. The restaurants had great presentation, but the taste and variety was just a little off. It appears that they have tried hard, but they need to have a professional chef come in an revamp the flavor and menu. Perhaps put in a menu with more authentic Mexican entrees? The Italian restaurant called Portafino was not a good Italian restaurant like you are used to. The others were the same. They weren't bad meals, and I did have some great ones. Both steaks I had were not cooked to order and it seemed that the meat could have been cooked a touch longer. Food was sometimes warm, not hot. Had to wait to get in restaurants, but it was nice to go sit at the lounge and get a glass of wine or a cocktail before dinner. The nightlife was ok, and depended a lot on who was there. It had a nice bar with big screen tvs to watch the Olympics, shoot some pool or hit some karaoke. Needed something else at night. It was fairly slow, even if they had music or karaoke. Definitely need to keep the pool, hot tub and pool bar and beach bar open at night. No one wants to turn in at dusk every night.
Overall: Very impressed, hard to be nit picky. We would recommend this resort as a very good all inclusive resort. We have stayed in Cancun and on Isla Mujeras, and I would pick this as the best hotel so far. Great for couples and relaxing.
