Service counts
By ,
The location of the hotel is fab. I was close enough to walk to all the place's to go, however street noise was a big problem. The staff need's more attention to detail and a bit more customer service. I said hello to every staff member I saw, and only one ever showed a interest to say it back. This was a pricey "getaway" for me, and I'm sad to say it wasn't a big wow in anyway.

Roaches everywhere
By ,
My expectations might have been too high, but I stayed on the Concierge floor after getting engaged, only to see that the Market Pavilion is fond of pets. By this I mean we found 5 roaches crawling out of drains, in the bathtub, and on the bedroom walls. We called the front desk to have them removed, but they were not very responsive. We had to wait and hour and a half for someone to show up one of the times. Either way, I wish I could post some of the pictures taken of these roaches because they were huge! It gets better... Everyone at the front desk informed me that they were normal, while the manager offered up the excuse that they were brought in from a cruise ship. I wonder if that is what they tell the restaurant guests too! Probably the worst value for the amount they charge. For $500 a night, I would hope they could pay for an exterminator daily. Plenty of other nice hotels to enjoy Charleston that are much better values.

Beautiful, Simply Ideal -- 99% of the time
By ,
The level of luxury in not only the facility itself, but in all of the amenities and details. The staff, especially the valet, went above and beyond the call of duty to keep us pleased. As far as dislikes, there was only one, and it was NOT the fault of the hotel. On a Saturday night around 10pm large collections of inner-city kids lined the normally safe and pristine streets of the market, blocking intersections, and blasting music. Felt dangerous.

Ants in room no additional charge!
By ,
1st time in Charleston in 30 yrs. Wanted nice hotel in a great location -but this one did not come with any southern hospitality, friendliness or desire to be of any help whatsoever with anything. Snotty staff, room with ants-not just one or two but all over the desk and night stand( we called &staff said they would spray while we were out touring the city- but.... the ants were crawling on our sons breakfast plate the next morning as well) The lovely balcony that faced the market had doors that would not lock and we were adjacent to another room and they would not fix that either. Someone could have come into our room at anytime. Towel bar kept falling off onto the lovely marble floor, light fixture had light bulb dangling from the wires and staff said they were aware but could not fix(can anyone say-electrical hazard?). Our floor did get a free continental breakfast which consisted of cold pastries, juice, and coffee that was only lukewarm. For a supposedly 4 star hotel I expected at least something somewhat healthy with fruit and yogurt-not thawed frozen pastries. Oh, I'm sorry-there were apples on a plate that you could have any time of the day! Yeah! (how long had the same apples been there? Downstairs, at Grill 225 for dinner, we had two wait staff and they could not get our sons drink order correct, did not bring any bread to us-had to ask--brought another tables order to us-twice! And....had to ask for a dead fly to removed from the lovely white linen tablecloth. Food was mediocre and not worth the $250.00 bill. Would never go back to this hotel. Nothing world class about this. the next night we stayed in the holiday inn express in Savannah and the room was cleaner and the staff was so much nicer and far more helpful. Even the continenal breakfast(even though the pastries might have been frozen) was much more healthy with yogurt, and fresh milk. The valet parking was even friendlier. And the room was still over $200.00 less a night. I had only 4 days off this year and really wanted a nice hotel with some real charm and character- not a hotel with real characters and no charm. Charleston- you can do much better!!!!!!!!! So very disappointing. Would not recommend this hotel to anyone at anytime for anything.

Stay Somewhere Else
By ,
Just stayed 6 nights at this hotel, and found it below average in every way. No soundproofing, disinterested staff, terrible brunch food that gave my mother food poisoning - restaurant manager docked the charge but didn't see fit to make any sort of apology, Pavilion Bar overcrowded, food inedible there, and the puddle they laughingly call a cascading pool is too small and overlooked to swim in. Not nearly worth what they charge - for this price and considerably less, you can stay in 50 better hotels anywhere in Charleston

I highly recommend this hotel, it is great!
By ,
In March I stayed at the Market Pavillion. The Hotel is beautiful. The rooms are lovely and very clean. The staff could not have been more accomodating. The location is wonderful. The roof top lounge is great and the restaurant wonderful. I would highly recommend this hotel.

Beautiful but needs technology upgrade
By ,
We recently visited Charleston for the first time and Market Place was recommended to us. We loved the hotel, the location, the food, the roof top bar, restaurant, pool and the view! The only problem was that the hotel is outdated from a technology standpoint. The rooms have old TV's and bad reception. At this price I would highly recommend that they invest in HD TV's and a better provider. They staff worked hard to get things working, but outdated equipment is hard to overcome. If you are going there and there is something important you want to see on TV, make sure they can accommodate your needs before booking!

Never Again
By ,
The hotel was beautiful and close to everything, however it was way overpriced for the service that was given. I had a diamond bracelet that was taken and I was made to feel guilty for complaining that it was gone. They blamed me and told me that I would be making someone lose their job by placing a formal complaint. I know exactly where I left the bracelet and it was definitely stolen....Once my husband and I left, we realized we had left his watch in the safe in our room (because clearly you can't leave anything valueable out). We had to call 4 times for the hotel staff to send us the watch and they had the nerve to charge us for shipping!! Also, no compensation was offered and nothing was mentioned of my bracelet again. It was one I wore on my wedding day. Bottom line is we should have stayed at a Motel 6. Anything would have been better than the service at this hotel. And you can trust the staff!

We loved it. Try to get a discount.
By ,
This is a wonderful place. We loved the pool bar even before we checked in there. The restaurant is great. The service is great. And you can't beat the location. When we went (July 2006) they had a special on the concierge level of $240, which was worth it. I wouldn't pay much more than that though. All in all, a great place to stay.
