As a regular traveler to Las Vegas, I am often asked about the best times of the year to visit Sin City for shopping deals. Unlike other tourist locations, Las Vegas does not have citywide sale times when various merchants schedule discount periods to draw in visitors. There are particular times of the year, though, when you will be more likely to find shopping deals.
Off Weeks Without Major Conventions
Las Vegas is a top tourist site throughout the year, with large conventions taking place all the time. A2ZLasVegas has the best overall listing of conventions online, as the site lists estimates how many guests each convention is expecting to host. As a general rule, I try to plan my shopping trips to Vegas around weeks with less than 100,000 expected convention guests. During these weeks, the stores realize they will not have as much money coming in and are more likely to push sale merchandise or pull clearance items out from the back. I have been in stores the day before large conventions and seen them place their clearance racks in stockrooms in order to start pushing new items.
If you do not mind purchasing clothing with a year listed on it, November might be the time for discount shopping in Las Vegas. Most casinos have been getting away from emblazoning logos with dates, but there are still enough clothes in this category to fill a few suitcases. Vendors will begin clearing out the current year's dated clothing in November to make room for the upcoming year's clothes. These clothes are rarely seen in December.
Four Days After Christmas
Christmas is one of the slowest times of the year in Las Vegas, but is one week before the busiest few days, which surround New Year's Eve/Day. Merchants rush to sell out of all of the clearance holiday items before the New Year's Eve rush heads into town. I have seen holiday items plummet 80 percent in the four days immediately following Christmas.
The temperature in Las Vegas begins an upswing in March, so shopping locations need to get rid of long-sleeved clothes to make more room for flip-flops, shorts, and T-shirts. Shoppers can find deep discounts on clothes that can still be worn for a few more months in some of the colder states around the country. I have picked up sweatshirts for $5 in Vegas during the first two weeks of March.
Keep these times of the year in mind if you are going to have a Las Vegas trip focused on shopping. While deals can be hunted down any time of year in Sin City, these particular times will give you the best opportunity for saving as much money as possible. While shopping while on vacation is fun, Las Vegas shopping with deep discounts is even more enjoyable.
