That’s actually a hiking trail in The West Sea Canyon of the Huangshan Mountains, Anhui Province, China. And if you’re frightened by the thought of walking along a cantilevered slab of concrete stuck to the side of a sheer rock cliff, the bottom of which you cannot see, try to imagine its construction.
Shanghai-based photographer Roy Cheung captured this image and named it “Stairway to Heaven.” That’s easy to understand. With stairs angled at 60 degrees, a hike that can take six to seven hours, 1,600 feet from the canyon floor, one might feel a closeness to Heaven … or some other place.
