Joie de Vivre opening second Hawaii hotel

Moving further into the Hawaii hotel market, Joie de Vivre Hotels will open its second island property, the Shoreline Hotel Waikiki, on May 1. The Oahu-based hotel joins its predecessor, the Coconut Waikiki Hotel, which opened in June 2012.

Joie de Vivre Hotels had been exclusively on the mainland with boutique properties in Arizona, California and Illinois. Niki Leondakis, CEO of Commune Hotels & Resorts, Joie de Vivre’s parent company, talked to Yahoo! Travel about the brand’s foray into Hawaii.

“With our large presence in California and are our recent expansion outside the state, Honolulu is an important market for us,” she said. “As we penetrate new geographic markets, we're able to offer something new and compelling to our fans, as well as build new loyalists. Plus, with nearly 30 hotels in California, we have a very robust database of guests living in the state, which is obviously a major feeder market for Hawaii.”

Previously known as Seaside Hotel Waikiki, the 135-room Shoreline Hotel Waikiki has undergone renovations, including 1970s architecture with Modernism/Art Deco influences from award-winning designer Anthony Laurino, custom furnishings by Eric Brand and photographic works from local artisan Michele McCarthy.

Amenities include free WiFi, flatscreen televisions, mini fridges, microwaves and private balconies.

Special introductory rates of $159 will be offered during Shoreline Hotel Waikiki’s opening, with regular rates starting at $195. And for a hotel described as a “peaceful retreat with a romantic edge,” there’s the introductory Sea or Sky Daredevil package (from $695), which includes deluxe accommodations with a choice of a sky- or shark-diving adventure for two.

As for other Hawaii properties, Leondakis said, “We are opportunistic and are going full speed ahead to grow our footprint nationally and globally. We don’t have anything new to announce in Hawaii yet, but we have a full pipeline of exciting new projects, from Palo Alto, Calif., to the East Coast.”
