Up to her knees in muck, bent over with her face hidden by her straw Nón Lá hat, she looked like any other ordinary worker in the rice fields of the Red River Delta. But when she stopped on her way home from work and removed her hat, to pose for a photographer, she was extraordinary.
With her pan of rice seedlings, freshly pulled from a nursery, she will peddle home and after a short night’s rest, she will ride to the paddies. There, planting the seedlings while up to her knees in muck, bent over with her face hidden by her straw hat, she will be indistinguishable from her coworkers, once again.
