Near Hai Phong, Vietnam, a traditional flat-bottomed fishing boat is quietly rowed from the mouth of one of the many caverns along the Cam River. From his position, American-born photographer Brian Hammonds can hear the gentle swirling sound in the stillness of the cool, dark room.
Nearly 7 million international tourists visited Vietnam in 2012, attracted by both the culture and subtropical climate. With a growing economy, fueled by information and high-tech industries, Vietnam is far from the French Colonial days of Graham Greene’s “The Quiet American”, yet neither this boat nor the cave have changed in a thousand years.
