Our guests were impressed
There is no other hotel in St. Louis quite like the Seven Gables Inn, a historic and charming hotel nestled in the Clayton business district. When I used to work at Washington University, we put guest writers up at this hotel. During our conferences, writers would gather in the bar spontaneously and continue academic discussions over a glass of wine late into the night. The cozy and intimate atmosphere inspired our writers, who were used to being put up at nice hotels where all of the rooms felt the same. We never received a single complaint about the hotel, the service, or the restaurant. I would bet that by now, this hotel--or a fictionalized version of it--has made its way into a novel, or a poem. This inn is not quite of this world. It is a place to remember, a place to invent, and a place to dream.
