Grand Principe is grand!
This prince of a hotel is located about a block from the Sta. Lucia train station; the location could not be more perfect and convenient. The service was helpful and any request you made they tried to fulfill. The included breakfast was wonderful; one caveat is that it fills up quickly, especially weekends and you may have to wait for a seat. The coffee "machine" on either side of the room insured that your choice of coffee was hot, a real plus. Don't miss the Marco Polo bar with tables on the Grand Canal; great way to end the sightseeing day by sipping a bellini!
The room was small, but most older European hotels have small rooms; it adds to the charm. Some rooms had a view of the Grand Canal; mine had a street view. I loved it...you could see people just living the Venetian life from your balcony all hours of the day and night.
There are many really good restaurants in the immediate neighborhood...Roma, Al Brindisi were two of the best. It is quite a hike to Piazza San Marco (40 minutes) but half the fun in Venice is walking around, getting lost and walking some more. Be sure to take the vaporetto (water "bus") to Murano (glass) or Burano (lace) islands for a change of pace.
I'd stay here again; highly recommended.
