Location! Location! Location! On Market Street, a block from Cafe Flore and several blocks from Castro.
The room was cheap, worn, and clean, management seemed to be around a good bit of the time, and the building seemed safe. Shared baths and toilets.
The Castro area firehouse is just behind the hotel, so the rear rooms have little street noise but occasional din from the facility.
I have mentioned it to friends, who stayed there and had my general reaction: they'd go back, too.
