The good life at April Point
April Point lodge is part of the Oak Bay Marine Group of lodges which include Painters Lodge just accross the water from April Point. The lodge and grounds are beautiful, as is the surrounding setting. The fishing this summer (Aug 2004) was pretty weak, one 14lb fish in 3 four-hour trips (longer 8-trips can get to more distant location and have better results but that's a long time in a small boat).
The service is incredibly friendly, some of the best I've ever experienced. The food is very good although the restaurant can get crowded and the sushi bar ran out of fish one night. The rooms were comfortable with superb (hard) beds!
There are lots of activities besides fishing. Kayaks, motor scooters and bicycles are all available for rent. Quadra island has some nice art studios and beaches that are worth a visit. You can also take wildlife boat tours as well as some boat thrill rides to visit the rapids and crazy current created whirlpoos. If you get tired of the surroundings take the free shuttle over to Painters for a change of scenery.
