A Crumbling RUIN!
The Vendue Inn was NOT what we were led to expect. We secured a "luxury King suite w/fireplace" over the Martin Luther King weekend, January 2006. We were so looking forward to a small taste of luxury. Our suite, we were surprised to discover, wasn't located inside the inn proper but was entered by room key from the E. Bay street entrance. Our room was 401 -ground floor directly across from bars and restaurants and so publically located, one had to draw the shades immediately or put on a show for all passerbys on both Vendue and E. Bay sidewalks. In addition, the walls were thin enough that the noise from streetlife was extremely distracting well into the wee hours of the weekend mornings.
We also found a leak from the "bar" pipes in our room that staturated the hall floor and despite a plumber's attentions remained moldy and wet our entire stay. We asked for room service 4 separate times so that we could have the pull out sofa made up for our 5 year old who needed to be in bed around 8. Finally, I hunted down a storage closet on my own and took out the necessary linens. Luxury indeed to be doing housework once again and making beds! That was why we came, to get AWAY from housework, leaking faucets, and so on....
The bathroom clearly needed to be updated -- caulking was crumbling away and not everything worked well.
At least the Vendue Inn does offer a great location. The breakfast was pretty good and the service there very adequate. I cannot speak for the experiences of other guests -- we saw them very rarely.
Very poor, overall.
