Resveration canceled by Lodge....
I just wanted to pass on our experience (or lack there of) with this group. After reading good reviews on the Evergreen Lodge we decided to book a week there next summer. Upon reviewing the TA reviews and their website, we decided to stay in their new "tents" for a couple of nights and then in the cabins for the reminder of our stay. With three kids, two nights in tents is long enough, but we really wanted todo the tents as my 8 year old has been begging to go tent camping.
I made the reservation on August 2. They went through a long spiel on if I make any cancelation or changes to the resevration now it is a $50 fee, any changes closer to the date we loose a nights deposit. This is okay with me as I know how Yosemite and the surrounding areas book up.
This past Friday, September 22, I receive an e-mail from them (not a phone call) stating that they refunded our deposit for the tents as a large group was coming in and they gave them the campground (they just made the reservation on the Spet 22nd), woudl we like differetn days.
I then called and left her a message to call me so we could talk on the phone instead of e-mailing back and forth. She did not return my call. I then received another e-mail today stating that the following weekend would also be booked.
I called again and actually reached her (she answered the phone) and she said that large groups are given priority to the campground and her staff made a mistake taking my reservation. She would be happy to give me the cabin though. I ended up canceling the reservation completely - but told her that I was a bit disappointed in how it was handled and would think twice about reserving there in the future and also that it was a bit frustrating as Touloumne and othe rpark options were already completely booked up.
She came back with "it is almost a years notice - that is plenty of notice for us to give you - it isn't as if you are arriving next week". I told her if I was the one cancelling now, she would be charging me a cancellation fee to which I got the "what exactly is it that you want me to do?" All I wanted was a simple apology and a professional handling of the situation - instead I got an obnoxious lady who was down right rude.
Oh well - that's the way things go - we will find somewhere else to go and have a wonderful time, but just beware if you book tents have a back up plan.
